new help with factory dual cat GTA

I've combed the board for hours but am still a little confused. I want to put new exhaust from the engine back on a 89 GTA that has dual factory cats.

I am looking at 2055's and flowmaster 80 exhaust. They are made to connect to a single 3" cat?

Here is what I am guessing I need to get:

2055 headers and Y pipe
new 3" cat
flowmaster 80 exhaust kit -- single cat style.

Will this need any pipe cutting/welding? Or everything should bolt together and I can drive it to the shop to get it welded.

Thanks for your help.

You are going to have to ditch one of the cats, or get some custom exhaust work done. Noone makes pipes back from the headers for dual cats, all the way to the cats unfortunately. No idea why. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong though.

so the "bolt on" technique for me would be to pretend I have a single cat car and get:

Hooker 2055s with 3" Y pipe
3" cat
single cat catback exhaust system

???

other than getting a new flange onto the cat to hook up to the tranny.

Or you could get some SLP's if you can afford them. I wanna say MAC makes headers for dual cats also but I'm not sure. then from there you can get a y-pipe from Flowmaster and hook up any exhaust system to your car with a little welding.

Also, you may want to check your local laws about your exhaust. It "could" be illegal to go from dual cats to a single cat. You'll wanna check into it before you actually decide to do it.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Hedman makes a dual cat kit with y-pipe # 68491 we sell it for $449 coated it is an additional $50 to coat the y-pipe

I have the Hedman kit for dual cat cars.....same headers as the single cat...just two header pipes that go into the cats...MUCH better than just one cat....I also have the Flowmaster Force II catback with the FLowmaster Ypipe that comes with it....almost a dual exhaust..lol It flows really nice....almost 30cfm more than any catback...good luck

Sorry for bringing this bak up, but..

KYL98,

How bad was it installing your headers?

I've heard bad stories about the dual cat hedmans, so I'm asking anyone whose installed them how much of a pain it was.

Thanks,

Don

P.S. We are probably neighbors. I'm in Alexandria, KY
