2055 or 2460?

Had a set of hooker Comp headers for a while, now it's time for another ypipe. The custom 3" one sucks and I want something easy. How do I tell if the headers are the 2055's or 2460's?

Here is a pic http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...02_16_full.jpg

They are the 2460. The 2055 has a different collector and comes with an awesome y pipe.

me? no pic of the ypipe. Nothing special, just a piece of crap that a lockal shop did for me. Ugly as sin. Full 3" from the collectors. I'll take some pics when I take it off. I was hoping I could get a bolt on pipe, but I guess I'll have to weld up one on my own. thx.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but is there 2055's that do not come with the smog provisions?

No but you can cut the tubes off and weld them up, thats what I did.

IMO the 2055's are the way to go because you get that nice 3" collector Y-pipe so you can run a 3" exhaust all the way back.

You can get some other cheap headers and have an exhaust shop fab up a Y-pipe for you but then it is about the same cost as just buying the 2055's.

Re: 2055 or 2460?

Would i be better off to buy them painted and cut/weld the tubes then have them coated or is there a way around that, so i could just buy them coated? I don't want bare spots on the tubes where the smog used to be.
I suppose i could just use header wrap on painted ones. That wouldnt look too bad.
thanks

I didnt coat mine, I cut off the tubes and welded them and used an angle grinder to clean them up, then I painted them with high temp paint. You could do the same but instead of painting them have them coated.

Re: 2055 or 2460?

The 2055 part number means 50-state legal Hooker headers with the AIR tubes. They're required by FEDERAL law to be there, on a street car.

Do not use header wrap, that stuff sucks. Thermal coating is the best way to go for long lasting headers.

Re: 2055 or 2460?

Hooker does make a y-pipe for the 2046 it's like 240 bucks though. It's jegs PN
520-16767. Not sure if it's a 3'' or 2 1/2'' though.
----------
It's has 3'' collectors and a 2.5'' outlet according to summit. Might be worth buying the 2055's and grinding off the air tubes.

Let me know how that goes and if it will work with the 2460's I'm in the same boat.

Re: 2055 or 2460?

Just got a response back from HOOKER TECH.

The 2055 y-pipe is NOT sold separate.

Nor does the 2460 y-pipe bolt up to the 2055 headers.

So it looks like custom it is

Jet-Hot can remove the tubes, weld the holes shut, and coat them afterwards. I bought a set of 2055's from them brand new without the tubes, and the welds are nice and neat looking, and fully coated. The 2055's are hard to find in their online header catalog, but they do have them available. Probably easiest to call or email them to request some. Here's a pic of mine.

Not sure if they charge any additional to cut the tubes and weld up the holes, but the coated headers are pretty spendy. Somewhere in the range of $700, give or take some, the last time I checked. I got really lucky though. A guy on the classifieds here gave up on his thirdgen project, and sold me the set in the pics for $460 shipped.

Re: 2055 or 2460?

On the 2460 y pipe, I cut off the 2.5" elbow/bend on the very end of it and had a 3" elbow welded on...

So, it has 3" inlets and a 3" outlet on the ypipe.

Then you should save your money. Doing something cheap is not doing it right. Just look at all those cheap toys from China.

the coated 2055's look real nice, but i was surprised looking at the pics that jet-hot left the nipples on the tubes.

for 700, you think they woulda taken the time to weld/cut them down flat and smooth things out a bit.

Those Edelbrocks have tiny outlets and are made for the tiny exhaust that comes on TBI cars. You want to at least get TPI headers with the larger outlets to go with the 3" exhaust you should have on a TBI car. Putting those things on is about --><-- this much better than what you have now.

Don's headers are 1 3/4" to fit the larger, raised exhaust ports on today's aftermarket heads. Send him a PM for the details.

Hawks third gen has the ypipe for the 2460's for $200 not a bad deal the cheapest I've seen yet... And it's from a sponsor here so that's always cool!!!
