Glowing headers

Just wondering if anyone elses headers glow red hot or have in the past glowed? What did you do to stop the glow? I believe it's from running rich?

well my headers glow but that isj ust rotary for you

the glowing exhuast can be from something plugging the system causing heat build up

running lean actually makes your exhuast temps hotter

and retarded timing will also make your exhuast run hotter

might want to check those out

it can be brought out by severely retarted timing and a rich condition. i remember for a photo shoot at our local community college i retarted the timing 20 degrees on a SBC and jetted the holley up 4 sizes front and back to achieve that glowing headers look for an ad for school.

usually its from fuel burning in the exhaust... either because of timing, or because you're running rich.. or both.

thats also why when some people just slap a carb on a motor, time it by ear and drive, they burn the header paint off.

Are you breaking in a motor or is this something that just started happening recently?

It's been doing it for a while now. I've been doing so much to the car over the last few years though so I'm not sure what I did or when exactly it started to do this.
