Hedman 68470 Install Questions...

Ok, I picked up a brand new pair of Hedman 68470's with Y-pipe, 1 5/8 inch primaries...blah blah blah. I have a few questions concerning the install (I have searched, but never came up with the answer to my question). Also, I'm not concerned about everyones opinions on the headers (they suck, open up the y-pipe, shoulda got long tubes, etc.).

I've read quite a few threads on the install, and read the directions that came with them. Here is my question....Do I have the unbolt one motor mount to fit the drivers side header on or by removing the driveshaft alone give me enough clearance to install the header?

Also, what gaskets would you recommend I use? The folded up paper ones that came with them don't look like they would hold up all too good.

Thanks for the replies!

I did the motor mount thing when I installed mine; I've read of others just undoing the steering shaft and fitting them in.
FWIW, the gaskets that came with my set lasted for four years.

Awesome! Thanks for the reply! I guess I will try the steering shaft thing first, but with my luck probably have to unbolt a motor mount.

I wouldnt have expected those things to last that long, I guess I just hold onto them and use em till they break!

no need to lift the motor, i removed the steering rod, also i think i had to slightly bend a few of the brake lines out of the way, those gaskets SUCK they'll blow in no time, i switched to the earls that have replaceable inserts, so far so good. i'm also using aluminum collector gaskets, ad some lock washers/nuts to the collector bolts, otherwise you'll be under there every few weeks re-tightening them.

Yeah, I wouldnt have even thought about using the locking washers on the collector bolts, thanks for the tip.

I already picked up a set of collector gaskets, so Im good there, I might look into pickin up some new header gaskets too though.

This is good info as im about to do the same. Im having problems with my oil dipstick getting in the way on the pass side.
I got a set of percy seal-4-good aluminum header gaskets with thoes new locking header bolts that have the tiny allen bolt inside that expands the end of the bolt inside the head.

I did this a while back with the same headers/ypipe.

I did both motor mounts one at a time. You also have to remove the starter and the dipstick.

If you go ahead and Remove the center bolt on the motor mount and tip one side slide the headder into place, then lower re- attach the motor mount then do the other side you will save yourself A LOT of time. You might not even have to invent new cuss words!

Have Fun!

The REAL fun will be getting the old manifolds off!

I'm thinking of buying stock in whoever owns PB BLaster!

well, i got all the AIR stuff and the y-pipe off today, along with all but one of the bolts on the manifolds ( on each side) off. I really didnt need any PB blaster except for two of the y-pipe bolts, the rest came off pretty easy. the little metal tab things kinda sucked, but i got them bent out of the way with a screwdriver, so they werent that bad. ill be finishing tomorrow!
