If you buy the cat-back tailored to your engine code it will come with a reducer. If you have a cat-back for TPI cars than you will have to fab up a reducer.

Even though he still has a bottle neck with the stock cat and y-pipe/manifolds he is still eliminating a large section of restriction. The stock I pipe is crimped and twisted and combined with a suffocating muffler which drastically effects performance. There is nothing wrong with going with a cat back now and upgrading your cat and headers later.

yes thats what i was getting at.. thats why i asked if he was going to replace those as well.
eventually you would want to, i know money is a consideration. i did the whole thing all at once (headers 3" cat, 3" mandrel bent all the way back, flowmaster) and it was a seat of the pants difference.

Berlinetta,
Just get a 3" Catco Cat made specifically for a TPI Single-Cat Camaro/Firebird and a 3" Flowmaster Cat-Back. Any good exhaust or performance shop can easily weld the 3" Cat to your stock 2 1/4" y-pipe using a reducer. That's what I did because I too did not have the $ to buy good headers and do it all at once. You will notice a slight difference in performance just with the set-up I mentioned, and you will surely notice a difference in sound. Get your headers/y-pipe later when you have the $. Good Luck!

Catco and Random Tech all suck.. they break up very very fast. i was at Dyno Dons shop yesterday and a kid came in with his car rattling
he just (1 month ago) had a new catco cat put on and its now broken up into pieces and floating in the case.
get a CarSound cat.. they're not expensive
