Guys, I would KILL to see some pics of 1 7/8 headers installed!!

I have been looking everywhere. I have a set of 1 7/8 hooker 2322 headers. These have 3.5" collectors. Anybody have pics of a similar setup? Specifically the underside around the oil filter and starter? Any help would be appreciated!

OK today I hacked up my K member. I then set the engine back in with the headers. The pass. header is close to and should fit with a little more off the K-member. The drivers side isnt close. I have to bend the header down and out. I am tired right now and will attach some pictures in a minute. I will finish the K-member with some plates tomorrow. I am now at a crossroad.

Should I...
Continue with these headers, bending and tweaking to get them fit..

or

Cut my losses and get an anemic set of hooker 2210's.

See the attached pictures for some visuals.

6 Not so close. Needs to have the collecter bent down and out. The people who had these headers before must've been on crack.

Cut your losses and try a tubular k-member instead of hacking up the stock one.

Wow, with that much cutting I would suggest a few things, primarily that you cut any corners with a radius to prevent from causing a stress point for tearing to start at, I would plate and weld the cutouts once you know things will fit, and finally, I would probably look into bracing the rear pivot points for the LCA’s somehow.

It rained today so I am not going to be able to touch the thing for another week. Great. I was actually thinking that cutting the corners square would be stronger because that would allow me to lay a nice weld connecting the two plates. Anybody have a technique for bending headers? I really don't want to give up on these headers because I'm in this far and they are pretty close to fitting, not to mention I havn't even seen another tirdgen with headers this large, besides stahl headers.

Are you running adapter plates on the exhaust side of the heads? If so how thick and why?

Yes, they are 5/8. They are needed because the headers are so big that they cannot use the stock bolt position.

yep Kmember plus tubular Aarms would save u a HUGE headache.. I can literally jack my front end up and slip my headers up in .1 second, there is nothing in the way, tons of clearance.. Although i have 1 3/4 Hooker LTs.. here are some pix..

What brand is that and how much did it run you for everything? Also, How bad was it to install?

In a perfect world you’d bend the plate around a radius and if you needed a weld somewhere you’d do it in the flat area where there would be less stress on it.

Anybody have a technique for bending headers?
if it’s just a little tweak then you need to heat them red hot and then put some force on them in the direction you want them to go in. If it’s more then a minor change you run the risk of kinking the tube and in that case you need to pack them with something before you try to bend them, usually you cap off both ends and fill them with dry sand…

I think Im gonna save up my pittence and get a K member. I also think I'm gonna keep tweaking these headers. Filling them with sand is a great idea.

I have dumped the 1 7/8 headers and bought Hooker 2210's. I just installed a profab k member and a arms. I am sure the headers could be tweaked to work, but I just dont have the equiptment or time. Pics up soon

Sucks that you went through all that work just to not use those headers. I hope you don't have much in the headers you had. Can't wait for the pics to see how everything turns out. Car looks great. Btw, what are you shooting for in the 1/4 with this car?

I know I can spray it into the 10.30's, thats what the motor was going in a heavier car. Thanks for the compliments. I am selling the 1 7/8 headers for cheap if someone wants to try them I know they are for this car, but I think the engine may need to be in the SS position.

well i bought them for about 400 without the adapter plates, but I'll let them go for 300 with the adapter plates, and I'll even pay shipping. I know I couldve tweaked these to work, but I dont have the equiptment (torch).
