Super turbos are very quiet at cruise and idle. The only time you can really hear it is during acceleration, and they sound great, but still not all that loud. That, on top of their good flow, is what they're known for.

I've got that system on my car and I love it.

Sounds great, but, I have no cat to get in the way, so it is a little louder than with a cat.

And for the money, it was right in line with my budget.

Its not as loud as I wanted to be.If you want loud go with Borla.Their expensive as hell though.
It had a nice rumble at idle and a good strong sound in overdrive.Revving above 3 gets raspy and raspy.Yes it will pass emmissions.I would definatly get a High flow cat with this catback to give it a rumble at higher rpm's.

I have the same Dynomax system.Im happy with it.Could be a bit louder at idle but its still nice.Very LOW TONED......sometimes it has a slight drone but when you get on it the sound is pretty good.Unique sounding.

so the dynomax kit hooks up real easy? do they give you everything u need to do the job? On a 1-10 scale, 1 being oil change, 10 being engine swap, how would you rate it? How hard will it be to mix a magnaflow cat (the only free flow cats ive seen for sale) with the dynomax kit? And what headers will fit after you put the dynomax kit on?

how many feet away would you have to be to hear it during acceleration. At first i was worried this kit would be too loud...BOY was i wrong.

thx for not saying "search for it"

If you want loud, Dynomax makes a muffler called the UltraFlo that has straight through design (you can actually see straight through the thing, no restrictions). Flows really well, and decently loud.

yea,
i had the dynomax it was 2 soft for my taste... so i bought the flowmaster 80 series and kept the cat. back pipe and trust me its alot better and the muffler was $80, but u do need the 2.5 pipe that dynomax gives ya. it was alittle more money but worth it.

The dynomax won't be very loud. If you want loud for cheap I would go with the hooker catback.

i dont want plug your ears loud or wake up ppl at night/morning loud or pull me over loud. What about the flowmaster "american thunder" kit (3'' dual outlets) will this be too loud?

and the hooker kit is 100 dollars more than the dynomax kit, and the dyno max is aluminum and doesnt have 4 tips on it like the hookers system does (at least in the ad it does) and i dont like that

thx for the info so far

im not sure how big the dynomax kit is, but the flowmaster "american thunder" kit is 3" pipe

what is too big with exhaust, i know i cant put 3" pipe on my lil 4 clyinder b/c of backpressure, so is there a limit with a 305/350 engine?

EDIT: just found out, the dynomax kit is 2 1/2"

First of all it's not "backpressure," it's exhaust velocity. Secondly, I would go with a 3" kit if you're going to spend the money. It won't be too much for a v8. I'd say your best bet is a set of 1 5/8" shorty/ypipe kit, highflow 3" cat, and a 3" catback of your choice.

Amen, I have the 3in dynomax ultraflow catback on my car with 3in hi flow cat and dynomax headers and ypipe. Its loud .. louder then 80s series flowmasters but not dumped glasspack or loudmouth loud. I can set car alarms off with ease.. but it also has a GREAT GREAT tone to it. However my motor is not stock .. its not gonna be loud at all on a stock 305.

Back in the day dynomax had a 3in ultraflow system with split duals but they stopped making that and only make it with two out the driver side. IIRC, but i bought it off a friend low miles , i beleave he bought it from jegs a while ago.

IIRC, the 3in ultra flow yes, the super turbos are split duals.

omg, this is so freaking confusing just to choose a damn exhaust system...i have to account for installation, if it fits the original cat, if its dual or not, if it sounds good, and what headers will hook up to it...

im so confused

so on the stock set up, there are two pipes going into 1 cat, then one pipe out of the cat that eventually splits in two near then end just for looks? what a crappy stock set up

That dynomax super turbo setup has been around for a LONG time. My ’83 had one on it when I bought that car around ’91. I remember thinking that the car had a stock exhaust on it until I crawled underneath to take it off and replace it with something louder (3” pipes with no muffler ). It is pretty deep and sounds good, just more like something that you’d get from the factory.

Right now on my ’87 Formula I’m running what used to be an SLP TTL setup, but I didn’t particularly like the sound and the joint over the axle kept coming apart. I finally pulled it out, cut it up and used the SLP 3” over the axle pipe, extended the back side a little, added a 3 bolt flange and then added this assembly (dynomax race magnum/ultraflow welded) that I originally made as the 3rd version of the exhaust on the ’83 TA (it was originally mated up to an over the axle pipe off of a ’97 TA and assorted other parts):

This is what it looks like on the formula right now:

As far as sound, it’s actually very mellow. Lower and smoother sounding then a flowmaster, not obnoxious at idle, no droning inside (really, you don’t even notice it inside) but I have noticed that when I’m following someone driving it it sounds _really good_ from the outside (it’s almost too bad that you don’t hear it inside, you’d never know that it sounded that good if you didn’t hear someone else driving it)

I’m debating what I’m going to do next… that setup really should be OK for the turbo setup (the muffler is rated for 1000+hp by dynomax…), but I may take it off and replace it with something 3.5 or 4”, or I may just take the muffler section off and modify the tailpipe to tuck up and then dump downward like the stock tailpipes did just to hide the exhaust altogether.

But I do like my dynomax mufflers...
