leak where y-pipe hooks to headers...
i bought hedman hedders shorty headers and also the matching y-pipe and the passenger side bolted up just fine and the driver side ended up having a gap of about an 1/8th of an inch, so it wouldnt seal correctly.....does anyone else have this setup and cured this problem?
my boss said that maybe trying to put a exhaust doughnut gasket in there might b able to fix it....what do you guys think??
thanks!

Try some aluminum collector gaskets. They work GREAT on the header flange, even on the most f*cked up headers, so they would work just as well (or better) on the collectors as well. They aren't cheap, but they are also reuseable.

well ya see the problem is that the type of flange it is there.....its like a ball and socket type of flange, so it makes it a lot harder for them to seat in there right if they are off
here are some links to the pics of the headers and the y-pipe

see what i mean?
its like i need something that will seat on the round surfaces of the two...which is why my boss recommended the doughnut gasket....but i dunno
theres gotta b other people on this board using this same setup!!!

I had the same problem with my headers. You need to get the thick alunimum gaskets and 4 of the cheap paper gaskets. You will need to cut the inside of the paper gasket so that they just fit around the ball of the pipe. You will the make a sandwich out of the gaskets with the alunimun in the middle and a paper one on each side. The paper gaskets will fill in the area in between the collector flanges and give a better seal!

do you happen to know the part numbers or what they look like?
or are they just sheets and you cut them all to the size you need.....

You can order them from Jegs. These are the part numbers for the 3" diameter. The paper gaskets # 720-1204. The alunimun gaskets #760-66002.
Hope this helps !
