Long tube troubles?
How are long tubes to hang under a 91 RS? I plan to go with Eibach Sportline springs, so I don't want them to drag the ground all the time. I also plan to trade my 700R4 for a T56 in the future. Would the tranny swap create clearance issues? Thanks in advance...

Hey, cool. What motor you planning on? I am thinking about a LT1 with the eportworks.com LE2 heads and LE1 cam. And a 383 stroker kit.
You drag alot, or drive auto cross/ backroads. I do both, but prefer the second...

I prefer to screw around on the street and maybe when it is done, take it to the track just to see what it can pull.
I am gonna be running a 383 stoker with aluminum trickflow heads and a nice big *** roller cam and a 750 holly double pumper feeding it through a edelbrock vitor jr single plane intake. Set up is good for 500 HP. Cam power range is advertised to be from 3000-7000 rpm. Should be a screamer.
I am designing the pipes now. Hard to find a set up good for clearance and power. Trying to design something.
Car should be fun. You can check it out being buit on my site. Click the www down below.

Whatever. I have very nice streets where I live. I don't care if i am very close to the ground. Also I have seen more than once cars that sit higher with sportlines that prokits. And to add on top of that my car is going to weigh a ton less than a stock thirdgen. Alll light weight stuff on it. Only thing that really adds weight is the roll bars and the sounded deadening. everything else I have done takes away weight. Well the T-56 is heavy but whatever.
I am 100% confident that I am going to get this to work. Not a problem. I even got more motivated when people chime in with the
face and stuff. People have told me I couldn't do the stuff I have been doing since day one.
They said that about the guages, and that they were not gonna look good. (and they do)
They said it about wiring that entire car up from scratch with a hot rod cutom kit from painless. (and i did)
That I couldn't find a way to put bars in myslef and keep the back seats. (and i did)
mount a fuel cell 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the car. (done)
fit 11" rims (more guys are doing it now, but when i fist tried almost no one had)
Stuffing 335 tires on there (they stick out a bit but that will get fixed (so that is alomost done too)
Welding chromoly with my crummy welder from Home Depot, so that I could install my lambo doors. (did that too, will finish sencond door this weekend)
Anyways, I am not mad about people saying that something can't be done, I just think there are not enogh people trying to break the rules a bit.
I will get this to work, and well too.

Yeah, I agree. People keep telling me that I can't get the motor and transmission I want in the car without hurting the uni-body. I say SFCs.....

Say. that fuel cell install you did is exactly what i am looking to do. Exactly what parts and such did you use in order to get all that done? (I am tired of crappy Fuel Sending units that cost 400$ a pc, becuase a used one bites, Have been through 6 so far with no luck in finding one that actually works right.) So I just want to install a fuel cell, Shave the fuel door for it, (along with just about everything else I can on the car) and put it in there like the one You have, although i will have a stereo system back there, but it will be sepereated by fiberglass and I would make sure that the vent for the fuel tank is not IN the car.. as that would not be bright with electricity....
But if you could. let me know everything you had to get and do in roder to get that thing in there.. I may go a little different in how it is supported (I have a welder and plenty of sheetmetal, so I may make a box for it to set down into.)
(oh yea no to mention with the tank filler neck in the car, I wanna see people try to steal gas out of it.. I am sure they will get plenty fustratd when they can not find the gasank opening on the outside of the car lol)

LOL, true. Stealing gas would be hard.
Yeah there are plenty of different ways to hold it up. But mine is kinda unique. It works and doesn't budge a hair. Anyways, so you wanna know what parts I got. OK here goes.
-Jegs 15 gallon aluminum fuel cell with GM sending unit.
-Fuel lines (I used the twist-lock and 8-AN lines) cheap and works good.
-Filter (I used Fram) 40 bucks and looks great and easy to service.
Fuel pump ( I will be running 500 HP and N20 so I am using a Holly race pump (electric) But the holly RED will work just fine. Then buy whatever fittings you need and you are done.
As for the hole in the floor, well thats what it is. A hole the size of the cell, Then I put the cell under the car and raised it up. Drilled 4 holes at each corner. Then used long threaded rod, washers and bolts to let it hang rom the body. Applied metal calking at any point where water could get in. Then to hold it down from vibration I intalled a cross bar that goes from one rollbar back bar to the other and pushed it down againt the cell with some roll cage padding inbetween as a damper, and welded it in place. It is snug as hell, installed and water tight.
Hope this gives a general idea. Ask away if I left something out. Glad you guys like the work I have done, meens a lot.

Hooker Long tubes and sportlines sucks ***. I can manage to hit mine on raised expansion joints when going fast enough. Don't do it, you'll hate it. My collectors are about 2.5 inches off the ground.

They don't get smashed up at all, instead the collector flange gets ground down. Mine have been like this for 3 years and there is not a dent in them, just flats ground on the flanges.

Maybe I'll try the Pro-Kit. They set higher and have a stiffer spring rate. This would be better. I plan to auto cross it, so draging the headers would suck.

Most gas tanks are vented, So i was wondering where/how you vented the fuel cell. Most sotck tanks have the vent through the gas cap.. in a fuel cell that would be in the car.. so just wondering how you avoided the gas vapors in the car?
Also was reading threough your list, and we are doing pretty much similar things to the cars lol.. This winter the 83 gets gutted and all the metal repair and such begins. I thankfully do not have the amount of rust damage, but I have a few ways to get compound curnves out of metal lol.. no small squares.. Although what you did was not bad.. I would probably have cut out the affected area, welded in the plates, and took the grinder to it untill it was smooth.. even if I had to lay a few beads on top of each other..

I have very nice roads where I live. I am not worried about bumbs and stuff denting my headers. I do know they will hit. I am only running this set up for about a year, then I go over to AIR-RIDE, like Kandied. That will solve everything.
Before I forget. The fuel cell has a rollover valve on it. On top. I ran a hose from the vent (in the car) to a hose that goes out the car and sealed it with calking, from inside and out. Now it vents outside.
Back to the 2210s.... Do you guys know if the mufflex Y goes even lower than the 2210s?
406TPI...what set up do u have behind your 2210s?
And finally.....Z28*****, I have seen you on these boards before for a while now and you seemed well informed and nice, IMHO you are sounding like a jerk in this thread, esspecialy when you said......You go mr unique (dennisbernal) although....
Either way I am gonna run them and see what happens, If i get a hole in three days, I will PM you and tell you that you are right.

Z28ricr.....you can look at all the pictures you want, but I have ACTUAL experience (imagine that). My car sits just as low as any other car with sportlines.
Dennis...I used to have a mufflex y-pipe on there but it sucked so I ended up making my own. The Mufflex Y sat lower than the collectors. I made a new crossmember for my T56 so I could tuck the exhaust up better.

DAMN!!!! LOL. That is def not what I wanted to hear, hehe. Its ok though. I was hoing to run the mufflex pipe but if you say it is too low then I guess I better take your advice. I guess I am going to stick with my oval piping that goes straight back. I can't imagine lossing too much clearance.
I am very affraid of fabing up a Y pipe set up myself. I am not new to the idea of fabing stuff, but I feel like I might mess up pipes for some reason.
406 Do you have any suggestions for me as to what route I should go?

Sounds like you have a heavy *** car there Z28*****. I don't have them in my car now, but I am willing to bet my car that I will have mre than .5" of clearance

you can do the long tubes and T56 on lowered cars... just make sure you get that T56 crossmember that is Notched like an Arch on each side..
do a search with *T56 longtubes* there is a picture there of the crossmember.. its been done.. and is doable.

I'm not debating that these things things hang way too low, but what you are saying just doesn't make sense. BTW, I'm not sure where you get that a T56 causes any problems with these headers either. There are NO clearance issues with the trans. Remember, I am speaking from ACTUAL experience, not "here say" from the internet. Joined: Feb 2005

I didnt say YOUR car was that low, im saying the RS I have here IS that low, 3.5" from the ground to the frame rail, go ahead measure how far below the rail your collectors are and tell me how much clearance i'd have.
Dennis: I suppose it could be listed as heavy, I mean the aluminum headed small intake, more compact front accessory LT1 definetly has to weigh more than a thirdgen V8.
Guess to some of you "low" means having a bunch of fender gap.
Either sportlines dont lower the car much, or someones got their stuff in wrong.
FYI- the car IM talking about isnt on sportlines, its on my old set of Jamex springs, and the one im working on for me will definetly NOT be far from it in ride height.

Z28 you are just ranting on about pointless stuff. I am not running a heavy thirdgen motor either. Mine is aluminum heads and intake with NO accecories axept water and alt. with NO heater or anything else, No power steering and all tubular front suspention. So yeah I am not heavy either. I am just saying that there are plenty of guys out there running sportlines that can barely tell they put them in.
