Thicker Flanges?

Has anybody here gotten a set of headers and modified the flanges? what i mean is make the flanges thicker by welding on more steel. I know it sounds like a dumb question but i'm just curious, because i `ve known some header flanges to be quite thin.can it be done?

If you just buy the better headers, the ones that don't cost $100. They will thicker flages, thicker tubes and be of better quality. It would be way to much work to make thicker flanges and would cause lots of problems. Its just not a good idea. Now you could buy some thick flanges and make your own headers.

I don`t mean buying cheap headers and modifying them.I mean if I bought some 2055's or some hedmans and made the flanges thicker, to almost act like a spacer to clear the plugs better.I know many have thought that the 2055's flanges could be a little thicker.thats what I meant.

You might run into frame clearance issues by pushing the primaries out to far.

would 3/4 of an inch be to far you think?

Wow! Thats alot of steel. Why do you think you need that much material? Most header flanges are 3/8" thick, some 1/2" but 3/4" inch is huge. Are you talking 3/4" total flange thickness or 3/4" on top of the origional flange? Its been a while since I looked at an fbody header for clearance, but I gotta think that moving the header that far out is going to hit something.

I mean 3/4 inch total thickness of the flange.

I think its a little overkill and could cause clearance problems. All you can really do is measure it in the car.

I don`t think I`d have many clearance issues due to the fact that I`ve ripped most of the usual obstructions out of the car.(see pic)
maybe on the drivers side but deffinitely not on the passenger side.

its atually on the passenger side that i've has all the trouble with mine. I have a set of Hooker 2460's and they didnt wanna go in that side at all. i remember hearing somewhere that the engine is mounted slightly to the passenger side to compensate for driver weight in these cars.
