There was just a thread about this.
Mustangs sound different because:
1. Lower displacement motor
2. Different powerband
3. Different power level
4. OHC Motors (less important, has to do with 2 and 3)
5. True dual exhaust
Your car will never sound like a mustang.
Closest you can get to that tone is true duals, a good x-pipe and mufflers of your choice.

Just search for mufflers, you'll get a thousand different opinions. Personally I hate flowmaster, I bet equally as many people here love them though.

I just want something with a deep echo and a low tone. I want somewhat loud but I don't want annoying loud. Something close to a mustang sound. Any recommendations?

Do what i did. I was amazed at the difference in sound and it wasn't complicated. Buy a 'Loud mouth' system for F-bodies from SLP. http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=31042
Have any custom exhaust shop install it, they will have to slightly modify it..hangers and what-not because SLP doesnt have this system for 3rd gen's. Thats exactly what i did and i am blown away by the improvement in the sound. I am still running the stock manifolds. I have a high flow converter. You won't be sorry.

I've also heard the difference in firing order has something to do with the sound of the exhaust.
I own a Mustang and two Camaros. My Mustang, an '03 Cobra, has a supercharged 4.6L 32-valve monster. It has four cats, four O2 sensors, a stock H-pipe and a Borla Stinger cat-back. I've been told it sounds awesome! On the other hand is my true-dual exhausted IROC-Z:

It sounds just as mean as my Cobra. Note: It hasn't been supercharged in two years -- replaced by another "system".

I found a sound clip of the SLP loudmouth and holy ****. That was ****ing sick sounding. I'd love to hear that on a 350 so do post that up. Anyone else have any other suggestions? Keep them coming....
I want to have a sound thats going to make people say damn. I got plenty of money to do whatever it takes to get that sound I'm looking for.

If money is not an issue, have a dual system like mine fabbed up. It uses a pair of custom-length Stainless Works chambered mufflers. For a sound clip, go here:
http://www.iroc-zpostforum.com/MemberWillie.htm
and click on the appropriate link. Don't forget to read the verbage below the link. This clip is through the cats! Also, it's just as loud (if not louder) than the Loudmouth AND does not resonate at any frequency!

Thanks, I think so too. Hard to believe there's only 305 cubes under there....
Actually, I like the tone of my IROC-Z better than my Cobra. The Cobra tends to "wrap" somewhat during acceleration and sounds like percolating coffee when decelerating! Personally, I don't like this but the other Cobra guys seem to think it's cool. If they could only hear my 305....

Just my opinion, but I think the '67 Camaro with the 400sbc sounded alot more badass than the Mustangs did...
The trick to getting a badas sound out of any V8, is good heads, big cam, and dual exhaust.

Even the heads aren't mandatory for that . A cam and lifter update with the duals will let the car rock like hell at idle.

As far as the deep/low tone you might want to check out Forza-flow. I can't tell you how they are rated performance wise but they sound nice on all i've heard them on. Deeper than my buddies 40 series Flowmaster....They tend to drone just as much though. Good luck,
