I think I am gonna go with a bullet muffler...

I don't think I can beat it as far as flow and for 35 bucks I don't think I can beat it at that price...

But I do have a few questions/concerns...the bullet is 3 inch inlet/outlet, my stock muffler has one inlet two outlets, so is it possible for an exhaust shop to cut off my second tailpipe and just stick the bullet muffler in replacing the stock muffler...

I don't want new tailpipes, I wanna use my stock ones cause they are still good..I wonder how loud it'll be though.

I can't wait

If you are going to use the stock location for the muffler why use the bullet style? I will be using a bullet next summer because I am going to end my exhaust in front of the rear axle. This is to reduce weight.

The second tail pipe should be connected to the muffler only.

I put my bullet in the I pipe, then split the I with a Y-pipe over the top of the axle and it went into dual exits.

And loudness? Hope you like waking everyone up and people hearing you get on the freeway from a mile away.

check my sig for a soundclip. I don't run a cat either.

I got it installed, and as soon as I started her up, I pooped my pants...its not really obnoxiously loud, but omg it has such a booming idle noise and when you step on it I get IMPROVED throttle response right away....this son of a gun goes and I get a nice beefy exhaust tone....

I decided to go with single outlet but I told the guy to tuck it underneath the car so you really cant see my pipes at all, that guy did a great job on it.

I also feel more power off the line, and it really picks up very quick. I plan on doing some headers fairly soon but it sounds really deep and threatening...

That stock muffler was toast, it was heavy and like ashed and metals and stuff fell out as I lifted it...

I plan on doing the same thing as you on the same car, only ill be replacing a flowmaster 80 series, i was wondering for anyone out there who knew, after i do it will it still pass inspection or still be sound legal?

91chevyRS do you think you could post a pic?

I dont have my digital camera on me now, but as soon as I get one handy I'll be sure to post a pic...

The car sounds unbelievably mean, like I couldn't really tell from inside the car, I mean there was a bigger roar at RPMs, but I had a friend of mine rev it while I was standing behind and honestly, this thing sounds like a tame Magnaflow catback on an LT1 car....it sounds so nice at the higher RPM area and it has improved my response and acceleration immensely...I plan on doing custom exhaust set up, I want mine to sound different but honestly it sounds really good....

It was like $40 for the muffler from summit and they only charged me $150 to install it. Then I bought new tips later.

Unfortunatly I don't have any pics from underneath, but you can see the tips in this one (old pic - wrong plate and everything):

Here's a crap *** drawing of what I did:

Does the drivers side tip get any flow? Cause I mean the passenger side is lined up with the exit...but it's a sweet design. I'm stuck between you're style or the single exit style.

I got mine done for about 110 installed, not too bad, I bought the muffler for 35 bucks...

I might gut out my cat and replace it with a bullet muffler or just get an exhaust cutout and install it just before the cat converter...I expect sudden loudness of this...

I am gonna be ordering my i-pipe possibly this week, I found a 3inch piped one for about 90 bucks...not too bad, once I get that I pipe on, it'll basically be done for my exhaust, then I can work on my headers and dig into some engine work...thats basically the only piece I am missing...

I love the bullet, honestly, it sounds so good, I can only wonder if it'll get any louder, I don't hear it that much in the car but damn, when I open my door and rev it slightly it booms...now once I get my i-pipe installed I'll be king!

I dunno how much hp gain I see from this bullet but I can tell you I definitely feel a difference...

Steve: Yes they both get equal flow. The Y-pipe over the top of the axle splits it evenly. I believe it was a flowmaster part number. In the morning I can see condensation coming evenly from both tips.

91chevyrs: My car is easily the loudest car in my city. I have never even heard another car on the street as loud as mine. When you floor it and tach it out in an underground parking garage I have yet to find someone that doesn't cover their ears because it's SO loud. Like I said, I run no cat, a bullet muffler and stock manifolds. Wonder what my next car will sound like, cept it'll be a built 350 with long tubes

As for HP gains.. I actually tested this a little bit. I went to the track and pulled out the pipe that goes in my cat's spot. So I was basically running open Y-pipe. I ran several times like that, then put the pipe back in so it could flow out through the bullet muffler. I ran the same times exactly. No loss, no gain. So in other words the bullet flows like an open pipe, which is exactly what I would expect.

I was going to run a cat, emissions and all. It's a 3" inlet/outlet Magnaflow. So I would have shorties or LT's, go into the ypipe, than the cat, than it would be the bullet muffler, than that ypipe over the axle to tips, would this work? or would I need more room?

Expect it to be so loud with a built 350 that you can make people jump out of the way that are 200 feet away. Or when you go by people, they give you a Also, when people are standing around and you start to do a burnout, they'll all cover their ears Mine is too dang loud for around town driving, fine for open roads and the track though. When just putting around it's about as loud as my old system was when full throttle.

Should work just fine!

hey urbanhunter, do you think if I do an exhaust cutout just before the cat converter and run the bullet muffler, would I be one loud *** ****...

I wont leave the cutout fully uncapped, just partially. I so wanna do this, I heard you lose a lot of off the line torque but it gets spread out and the car gains more hp....

I am looking online for a cutout now...

And by the way, I love the bullet did I mention this...

If your car passed before you switched, than I don't see a problem.

"Losing" torque with a cutout is a myth I'm well acquainted with. In fact you lose nothing - you usually gain power and tq - it's just that with less backpressure your powerband moves upwards, giving the appearance of less lower end torque.

If you're doing a cutout and the bullet why not just leave the cutout open? Personally I prefer the bullet alot more over an open y-pipe. But yeah it would be loud. Just open the cutout all the way.. you'll see.

Steve383:

I used to, but I can't find it anywhere. It's a very small peice, maybe 8 inches total length. Any exhaust shop should have a Y splitter like it.

Chr1s46536:

It will pass smog, but not a sound test. It's far too loud to be legal in any state.

Isn't there like an insert that one can put into the pipe, so it would pass the sound test

I have cutout located right after my cat. converter. I used it open for a while but never liked the sound, really loud but not a 'performance sound' loud. I ended up running the same type setup Urban Hunter44 has. Put a SLP loud mouth in the intermediate pipe after the cat. and ran two tailpipes after the axle. It sounds really choice.

even though I live in an emmissions testing area, I am thinking of gutting out the cat converter now and slapping on a bullet muffler in place of it.

Since the muffler is like a straight pipe it should sound pretty good. As far as emmissions goes, my cat converter is going to hell either way and I just passed emmissions so I wont have to go back for another year.

I am thinking of it
