Edelbrock Dual Cat Headers for 92 L98?

So the car under my username has stock dual cats (not sure if that was common or not, this was a B4C) and I would ideally like to keep the stock dual cats on there. Would these headers be a good solution for that?

89-92 Camaro/Firebird 5.0/5.7L T.P.I. , dual-cat. Edelbrock Shorty Header System - EDE-68762

The car already has a 2.5-2.75" cat-back on there with the factory dual-cats and in a perfect world, I'd like to just swap the headers and go from there.

I've been reading a lot about headers, but am just getting more and more confused.

Can I get the famed Hooker 2055's and just use an aftermarket cat in place of the factory dual cats? Is there any complication to replacing the factory dual cats? Emissions must stay 100% intact and I figure the dual cats might do a better job than a single cat.

Thoughts?

The way I see it with 2 cats is that is one more to cause problems...as far as emissions having to remain 100% ....why? I know that Wake county is a bunch of liberal tree humping ...well you get the point.I think you would be better of with a single high flowing cat...as far as modification to your exhaust to get it to work....all it would take to go from 2 cats to 1 is a pice of pipe as the 2 cats join into a single pipe.If you get headers just get a y pipe for a single cat car.
Good luck,
Mike

Yes...just get the edelbrocks and be done with it.

I wouldnt replace a dual cat setup for a single cat. Even on a stock motor they made more power.

Before i swapped them for SLPs. I made over 300rwh with the edelbrocks so they should work fine.

Thanks for the info guys.

From what I've read the dual cats do make more power and the way I see it, they can only clean the exhaust (emissions-wise) even better. The reason of my concern for emissions is because I believe in doing the least harm possible environmentally, part of the reason why this isn't a daily driver.

The Edelbrock's look like a foolproof way to go and get everything I want from a set. Too bad it doesn't come heat coated!

Did you read my post above about "What's the best exhaust? What's the best headers?" ???? In it I say that Edelbrocks are the worst smog legal headers out there, and I still feel that way. The Hookers or the SLP's are light years ahead and well worth it.
Also, if a single cat is better than a dual cat, then why are so many people interested in true dual exhaust? Two pipes are better than one. Four pipes flowing into one 2.5" cat is much better than eight pipes flowing into one 3" cat. Think about it: Eight exhaust pipes flowing into only 1/2" more area. That's restrictive.
My exhaust is modified SLP 1 3/4" headers into a custom 2.5" dual y-pipe into dual Magnaflow 2.5" cats, into a 3.5" Magnaflow custom exhaust.

I did read the posts and searched a lot, I promise.

So if I got the Hooker 2055's, would I need to have some custom piping fabbed to go to the dual cats or how would that work?

I had a custom 2.5" dual-cat y-pipe made up, because frankly, all the y-pipes suck because they are made for the stock cats and exhaust.

Got any pics of that custom Y-pipe and Magnaflow cats. Im thing of keeping the dual cats just to quiet down the TSP Rumbler.
