I am running trickflow heads, Al. 23* ones. On them are hooker 2210s. i am sure you have herd of them.

They are leaking. What gaskets should I run? There are sooo many kinds and brands. Also the port shapes are a bit confusing. The trickflow site says they are D-shaped. So thats how I searched on summit and still get sooo many results.

I feel like I should go with deadsoft Aluminum, I already have the lock bolts. I tried searching, but have only been able to learn that I most likely want to with Al, or copper.

Although I was at a show a week or so ago and a guy told me he bought a set of Carbon or carbon fiber gaskets... I was confused since I had never herd of those and he says they seal increadibly.

Any advice would help out a lot. I gotta get this fixed real soon. Thanks.

Re: header gaskets
I went with the deadsoft layered aluminum gaskets. For my collecters, I used the paper gaskets and copper gaskets (nice sandwich). I've had good results. Just keep going back and retighten your bolts...

Re: header gaskets
Thanks for the replies guys.

If you don't mind, can you post what heads you have and what company gasket you went with too.

I have trickflow heads on a GEN I block, so the heads are D port, but not like an LT1. I can kinda confused as to what part #s I need. A call to trickflow will most likely solve the problem.

But just curious what you all have. THX

Re: header gaskets
OK, mine say that they are D-port and that is confusing me. Should I get D-port gaskets or just some square ones. The dimentions that the gaskets list are never the same as my heads list. Not sure what to do.

Re: header gaskets
I have regular LB9 heads, and I used Mr.Gasket (only because they didn't have anymore Percy's) I believe they are the square ports...

Re: header gaskets
well I called my local speed shop and they said they have a set of copper, normal stock, and the ultra seal. Then I said "oh great, copper" and the guy said I don't recomend them for the street, they will just blow out". I said ok, and hung up.

Is that guy a dead wrong, or should I just get the copper?

Maybe I should just go with the ultra-seals for now, till I can get some Al. ones...

Re: header gaskets
I have Trickflow heads & SLP Headers...for the longest time i've used Fel-pro, I doubled up when needed. I went through like 4 sets in a year & a half. I found a brand called Remflex. They warranty their gaskets. It is some sort of graphite like material that compresses as you torque it down. They actually ask you to torque it to 25FtLbs but I just got them all evenly tight. The gasket itself is 1/4 in thick. When you tighten it to 25ftlbs or equivilent, it will crush to 1/8 in. When the gasket heats up, it expands & fills in all voids & potential future leaks. NO RE-TIGHTENING REQUIRED, actually its recomended not to. I think I paid like 38 bucks, mail ordered over the phone. These had lasted me nearly 2 years & 20,000 miles.

Re: header gaskets
You have part #, or will it be obvious what part I need if I just google that company?

Re: header gaskets
I went to their site. Stuff looks good. I am still in the *** about what set I need. I have 23* al. trickflow heads. They have D ports but they are not LT1 or brodix . Do I just get the SBC square ones?

Re: header gaskets
The phone # i used was (360) 492-3100. I just called them & they asked what it is that I have, oval or square, what motor, heads & etc. They then gave me the part that I needed. Good tech service over the phone.

Re: header gaskets
I think I am going that route. Percy's or that other company recomended earlier. i just want something with the right port size. I picked up a set from the local speed shop, they were ulta seals, the ports were TINNY. So i didn't put them on and I just re-toqued my old ones.

25thannivZ28: Looks like I am going with what you recommended. I am calling later today to order some. I tried buying some off the shelf crap and the holes were soooo small it would be like corking up my motor. So I just re-torqued what I had on there.

You think this is the best stuff though?

From all the gaskets I've used, this is what I found to be the best. They ask to torque the bolts down, but I couldn't find a way to get a torque wrench on all bolts, so I just evenly tightened them down by hand. Hasn't failed me yet, so I'd say go for it!

Re: header gaskets
Everybody has an opinion but, the Earl's gaskets have a lot more advantages than others.

I have never had one blow out even when the bolts fell out.
They also have replacment inserts.

Check them out here:http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Re: header gaskets
Yeah, but from the look of the pic, they don't have the little ears on the end that make installing them easy. I took all the bolts out last week to try and take the gaskets out, to see if something was wrong with them. It was a PAIN to install the headers again while attached to the exhaust still. If they have the ears, then they are a maybe. If not then I am going with some Percy Carbon XX pieces. I talked to a guy at a show and he loved them. Said he shot them with a blow torch and they didn't burn or deflect. I am going to try them and see. If they fail, I will move up to the insert kind.
