How important to you is ground clearance?

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

true dual exhaust is better with long tubes. I have a post of mine and a few videos in this section. My camaro has 4-5" of ground clearance and I have never bottomed out the exhaust on the street, but I never have gone over a curb, or speed bump in the road with this car. The only time it rubs is when I go up and down the trailer, the s-bends just lightly touch the trailer's dovetail.

True duals are better with long tubes, but you don't need true duals, and the loss of ground clearance might make it not worthwhile.

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

Oh sorry I thought his mind was already made up on true duals, just he wanted to ask about shorties or long tubes being easier. Well in that case, then yes a single 3" catback is good enough with shorties for 85% of the people on this site for their power levels and ground clearance will be fine. Mine are just tucked in a manner that ground clearance is more than acceptable to me.

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

oh ok.
do they make medium headers? lol
not quite full and not quite short eather? kinda inbetween?

my ground clearence is not to bad.
i lowered my car so it does like to run on the high speed bumbs. thats about it. depends on how fast yoru going over the speed bumbs as well.
(i take my time with my car going over them bloody bumps lol)

how much was your exhaust done with the true duels from the long headers?
i was thinking maybe having the exhast exit just before the rear axle?
i havnt quite made my mind up on that.

i just put on some cheap crap cherry bomb turbo muffler(PURE CRAP!!)
it was cheap and i needed an exaaust on my car. cost me $280 to get new exhaust pipe from the Cat. back to the rear. and its only a single outlet to

if its going to cost me huge dollars i might just get the shorties and get a y pipe and stuff.
dont seem to be to to bad.

what do you guys think?

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

Hawks thirdgen makes a set of stainless steel long tube headers that are supposed to have good clearance. Theyre not cheap though.

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

If you put long tubes on a lowered car, you pretty much won't be able to take any speed bumps. I wouldn't bother with duals, just run shorty headers with a decently sized single exhaust. You'll keep your ground clearance, and you won't be able to tell the difference in sound or performance.

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

for a 350 for 3".....depending on how much power ( and money you're looking to spend), you might want to go 3.5. DO NOT GO 2.5"!! I learned the hard way and the 2.5" is killing my power right now....then again I have a 383. 3" exhaust and pick what brand you want depending on what sound you want. I myself am going with the magnaflow. I also like the sound of the Hooker Areochamber exhaust. Look in the sticky or search for exhaust sound clips.

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

if you still have the same open end on the straw and then add another little nick you should be able to blow more air through it and have it easier to boot.

as far as horsepower though.... eh kinda depends on a few things though I guess.

Re: full headers or shorty headers?

Exhaust leaks are just annoying, they don't reduce power.
