Re: what is now the realy best exhaust for a third gen TPI camaro
There is a sticky at the top called "Whats the best exhaust? What are the best headers?" here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exha...aust-what.html
Duals are not that great on a third gen, usually the weight and bends make the gains so minor it usually isnt worth the cost. I say stick with a single 3'' (or larger if you are in high hp, but a single 3'' should be fine).
Muffler wise, it is all based on what sound you like. I had a flowmaster 80 and switched it out for the Edelbrock RPM. There is a link in my sig to a video.
What kind of sound are you looking for? Loud? Deep? Mellow?
The more info youcan give us, the better we can help you out.
Good luck with your search

This reminds me of one of those "how do I make my v6 sound like a v8" threads on my monte/lumina forum.
There is no way any particular muffler is going to make your car sound like it has a huge cam and headers. You need some serious ening mods first, and then the sound will come no matter what exhaust you have.

Re: what is now the realy best exhaust for a third gen TPI camaro
best performance or coolest sounding?
best performance would probably be a small diameter long tube header like the hedman piece to a 2 3/4 y-pipe 3" is fine.
run whatever muffler you think sounds cool. Peronally i think flowmasters sound like a tin can and seen enough of their stuff that isnt necessarily the ebst made pieces.
personally i prefer something from a companly like borla, magnaflow, or for a real loud sound, www.stainlessworks.net makes a crazy chambered piece that sounds insane.

My buddy has the stainless steel, chambered exhaust on his 69 Camaro with a fairly mild 350, and it's all crackly and loud, which is great if you don't drive the car for long periods. I also have to agree on the Flowmaster crap. In fact, I call them "Flubbermaster". Lol. They're kinda like the Accel or Mr. Gasket of the exhaust world. The same friend with the chambered system has dual "flubbermasters" on his 69 Chevelle. He took it on a long trip and said the constant droning/pulsating sound of the mufflers gave him a severe migraine. I personally prefer a more "tuned" sounding system instead of all that burbling, gurgling, and droning noise. Probably one of the best examples of a "tuned" sounding system would be the stainless steel, adjustable one from Borla. Those are mega bucks though. You can get a similar sound by getting the Hooker Aerochamber 3" catback system, or the Edelbrock RPM 3" system. Granted, they don't sound quite the same as the Borla system, but they're affordable and not all gurgly sounding. I've got the Edelbrock RPM system on my 89, and I'm quite happy with the sound of it. I've mostly heard good feedback on the Hooker system too. I also have to agree with Slow_90 Firebird. A nicely built motor with a healthy cam goes a long ways towards making the exhaust sound wicked. The only way to make your car sound like it has a bigger cam is to put a bigger cam in it.
I went from stock manifolds and 2.25 inch catback with a flowmaster 80, to long tubes and 3 inch duals on my RS on the same motor and it made a big difference in the sound, but it still sounds like the same motor, because it is. Same lazy idle. Just louder. And in stereo.
