Exhaust Idea I had...
Well, I was thinking about this the other day, and wasnt sure if it could work...
I might want to take off the stock catback. Then, I would have the exhaust shop make a new pipe that could hook up to the stock catalytic convertor. It would be either 2.5" or 3" with crush bends for price. It would neck down at the front just like a flowmaster I-pipe, to hook up to the stock cat flange.
This pipe would follow the stock exhaust routing from the cat, over towards the driveshaft tunnel. It would utelize the stock hanger after the cat.
Then, it would have a bend back towards the passenger side of the car. It would run at an angle under the floorboards, and maybe have another disconnectable hanger off either my passenger SFC rail, or inner rear framerail. Finally it would use an exhaust tip similar to the one in the picture below:

Here is where it would exit...

Now, the only problem I can see with this idea, would be that it would exit under the rear LCA. What I was wondering, since it was too cold to jack up the car today, was how much of an anle does the Rear LCA achieve when the car is on a lift or jackstands? Also, I want LCARBS in the future, that probably wouldnt help... so do you guys think this could be feasible? Or would the LCARB crush the exhaust tip?

I want to do the same ****. The torque arm prevents this from being possible on the driver's side. Unless you get a skinnier beam or cut it (not a good idea obviously).

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
Well, it would be real expensive to have exits on both sides, because you have to get over or under the torque arm / driveshaft. And those articulate with the bumps too lol.
I just did a real quick photoshop of how it would look. I cant go any farther forward, because of my SFC's. But also, with a narrow tip like this, it looks stealthy (so the cops dont notice). And if you ever needed to remove the exhaust, it would be a piece of cake, no over the axle section.
Here is the better idea:

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
I bought some 4th gen Z28 exhaust tips so I could do side exhaust only to be hugely disappointed. Do they make some sort of rectangular or oval exhaust piping that could still have the right exhaust flow but be lower profile in terms of the height?
I really want side exhaust. Here's a pic of where I wanted to put those Z28 tips:

*edit*
I want both sides BTW.

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
Dr. gas sells oval exhaust tubing. It is expensive, but all you would need to buy would be like one piece which is like $50. It is a conversion from 3" round, to the equivalant cross-setion oval piping. Really neat, but like $50. A chop saw would make the slash cut fine.
Also, the stainless tip I used in the picture is part of their side exit spintech kit. I am not interested in the kit, but if they would be willing to sell me a tip seperate it would do the same thing.
here is there round-oval transitions:

I'm not really that conserned about the pricing. When its all said and done I plan on spending as much as possible to ensure my Camaro looks new and has quality mods on it. So $50 for piping if it allows me to do my side exhaust on both sides is money well spent.

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
wait, its gonna be alot more than $50 to get it to exit on both sides...
I was just talking about the piece you need to make the "tip" out of. The rest I was gonna make out of round tubing. I dont even think Dr. gas's oval tubing could get you over the driveshaft, bad idea.
What I would do, is if you really want side exit on both sides, you should just cut the factory ypipe. That way you can run a pipe down either side of the tranny and driveshaft, and out both sides of the car. With no cats or mufflers, an exhaust shop could do this for about $300 or less probably.

Wow thats sick! Any sound clips? No mufflers, right?
The only problem with yours is, it exits where my Subframe Connectors sit. Thats why I asked if it would be possibel to exit it under the LCA.
Also, looks like yours sits pretty low. I would drag that on any speed bump. However, I was thinking, if I ran a single 3" pipe into dual 2" pipes, I woudl get the extra inch of clearence, with good flow too.

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
It's not my car, but sure I wish it was. I found the picture on here, but I don't remember where. Maybe someone will chime in with who's car it is. I just posted it to show it can be done. I can see how those SFC's are going to be a problem. The only thing I can think of would be to have the tip(or tips) exit from underneath the SFC's. That would absolutly kill your ground clearance though. There's another guy on here that had a side exit on his black GTA. And I think he did it with SFC's too. I'll see if I can find his username or some pics.
EDIT:
Have you seen this thread? It's a similar setup to the blue RS I posted above, but with more ground clearance.

Here's that black GTA:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...57-post70.html
The pipes hang kinda low though.
Here's another one: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...a-front-p-side Guy's name is GTAfanatic
Not sure if either of those GTA's have SFC's though. Maybe shoot them a PM?
Note that all three of those cars have GFX. I'm starting to think that a side exit wouldn't look so great on a car without any GFX such as your Formula, mostly because there would be such a large gap between the body and the exuast tip.

Well, I have seen those other cars. Those are pretty neat. It wouldnt really work on mine, because I dont want to put anything below the SFC's for ground clearence reasons.
Anybody have input on weather it would work if it exited below the LCA?

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
Well, I jacked up the back of the car today, and let the tires back down while the body was on stands. I found out that the control arms do not get that much angle, that it would really interfere with an exhaust pipe. Also, where the passenger rear floorpan curves up, would be a perfect spot to run the pipes out!
Of course, before I would ever get this done, I would have to get the I-pipe off the cat to hear what my LO3 sounds like with no muffler. If it still sounded wimpy, then I wouldnt even bother. If it gave me that NASCAR noise, I would definately do it.

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
I'm pretty sure its not going to sound wimpy without the muffler. This weekend I put a new catback system on, but before it installed it I decided I would take the car for a spin with just the stock intermediate pipe on after I had taken the muffler off...my reaction - wow! Sounded kinda cool, would have probably gotten annoying after a while if I had left it...but for a stock LO3 it sounded wicked! I almost went deaf when I started it in the garage lol. I imagine it would sound just as aggressive right after the cat...but there's only one way to find out!

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
The LCARB won't be a concern since it's welded to the rear axle, not the body mount. I don't see what you're looking to get out of this... it'll reduce ground clearance to route the exhaust right under the floorboard and be loud as all hell. I'm not trying to be mean, but it'll sound just like a v8 Caprice wagon with a rusted out exhaust system. Loud sure... but most of the attention will be from the guys wearing blue that you don't want checking out your car.

Re: Exhaust Idea I had...
I was talking about if I got LCARB's it would increase the amount of angle on the control arm, under which the exhuast would exit.
As for what I would be looking to get out of it? I am tired of not being able to hear my motor. Every other f-body I see has loud exhaust, and I cant even barely hear my car! I wont be able to afford a catback for a long time, but even then it will be a flowmaster like everyone else. Also, a simple side exit would be cake to remove if I wanted to work on something. Instead of trying to fish a pipe over the axle on my back lol.
