You don't need to remove the A.I.R. tubes from the manifolds to remove the manifolds, but you do need to remove the hoses to the manifold A.I.R. tubes, obviously.
The shield should come out after the manifold is out without removing the dipstick, but since the dipstick is held in with a manifold bolt, removing it isn't a big deal.

No, those are the nuts for the A.I.R. tubes.
Are you installing headers?

Re: Removing Exhaust manifolds
People say, you should hose the manifold bolts (by the spark plugs) with some PB Blaster a few times before you attempt the removal.

Re: Removing Exhaust manifolds
I am having trouble getting the rear bolt off the passanger side of my 1990 L03. There doesn't seem enough room to get a ratchet, or wrench up there as it is tucked behind the exhaust flange and ratchet hits the side of the body...no room when looking from the bottom. Is there a special tool to use of just push it up and down so the break is made and the bolt is exposed to get a ratchet up there. There has to ba an easier way....

Re: Removing Exhaust manifolds
I know this thread is old...but I just ran into this a few days ago and I think I know exactly what your talking about. I put a short 14mm socket on the bolt in question and twisted it with a pair of Channel-locks. Not good for a man's socket or knuckles...but the only way I could find to do it. I did this all laying underneath car with my feet about bumper-level and head maybe beneath passenger seat.
It is REALLY worth your time to carefully apply PB Blaster to each of those bolts. I would recommend using the red straw, a long handled mirror, or maybe even get under the car to guide the straw while an assistant sprays from above.
