added a.i.r. to my lt's

i just added a.i.r. to my dougs long tube headers, but i was wondering if you think the tubes going down that far will effect the performance? i can always take a grinder and shave it down. here are some pics

We've never done any tests to see if it affects it or not, but we always grind those tubes down on the inside just in case.

looks like a nice job you did! but like kevin said, i would grind them down, too. imho every obstacle in the way will hinder flow a bit

Re: added a.i.r. to my lt's

I've got a set of a.i.r. tubes just like those & have thought of welding them to the bottom of the header tubes.

From the top, they should look like nothing is there...clean But if an inspector looks, the a.i.r. tubes would be there, so he should be happy.

Although, I had planned on grinding off anything sticking into the airstream and welding them shut too. Appearance from the outside only.

My GTA passes smog very cleanly without a smog pump & the a.i.r. tubes not connected to the cat (last inspection) and I'm not in an emissions county anymore anyways, so the final output wouldn't matter anyways, although I do intend to keep it running clean.

I just have a problem with their requirements on HOW we achieve clean exhaust. If we can delete everything & still have clean exhaust, we should be allowed to.

Re: added a.i.r. to my lt's

LOL, nothings legal in CA anyways. AZ always follows CA when it comes to smog laws. I've had people tell me that the AIR system doesnt need to be intact but according to the emissions places, thats B.S. I just wonder, if you shave or grind those tubes down, will the exhaust pressure push back at the check valve, preventing the smog pump from pushing air into the headers? I ask this, because I have a set of non-AIR headers and really want to do this, but I need it to work!! LOL

Re: added a.i.r. to my lt's

No, the air pump will still be able to push air into the headers.

Re: added a.i.r. to my lt's

Thank you kevin91z. I was worried about that. Should I just grind the edges flat on the inside, or leave them sticking in a little ways? Thanks!!!
