I Need A Y-Pipe For Hedman Longtube Hedders!!!!

I have a 91 RS which I just swapped out the original 305 for a 350 and I bought the Hedmann Longtube hedders part no. 68460. Now I need a Y-pipe to fit the Flowmaster Thunder Cat Back Exhaust (3 inch dual exit) I just brought. I contacted Hedmann and they don't make one at all. Steve from Hawks did an awesome job trying to help me today but didn't have anything unfortunately. I think I might just have to have one custom fabricated. Anyone run into this problem before? Open any and all advice/suggestions? It's a daily driver by the way.

I think you'll find that anyone who's put LT style headers on a 3rd has had the same problem.
There are dozens of pictures of fabricated y-pipes and true duals in the exhaust forum.
I used Hedman 68460's in my 86 and built a y-pipe to connect with my existing Flowmaster 3".
Check out the 'dual exhaust picture collection' thread.

Re: I Need A Y-Pipe For Hedman Longtube Hedders!!!!

those are clean!
but if you have long tube duals why turn them into a ypipe?
the reason for the y originally was to route the exhaust under the passenger seat where there is a special heat shield and a route run to handle the exhaust to the rear without being seen. even the duals that came with the camaro used a y pipe after the dual cats - also routed under the passenger seat.
so i ask again, why the Y?
i jsut got headman 2055 and decided to go with a 3 inch y but to follow the path under the seat, but that was because it came with the y and i did not want to change the path and i like they are not visible.
but if you already have long tube duals and they are already visible - why not just run them straight back and keep true duals - you are not saving anything at this point.

Re: I Need A Y-Pipe For Hedman Longtube Hedders!!!!

In my case, as with a lot of lowered 3rd gens, there's just not enough room for true duals and mufflers. I've seen a ton of installations and few if any have the fit I was looking for. On the other hand, if I were to build a dedicated drag car, I would keep it at stock height to give more room for tuned length secondary pipes and properly placed mufflers.

It runs the length of the transmission plus there's the merge pipe (2 into 1).
Overall it's nearly 4' long.
Four J/Y stainless bends were cut up for the various angles.
I hacked off the ball and socket flanges on the headers and replaced them with a traditional 3 bolt flange. Same thing between the merge pipe and the 3" exhaust. The whole thing drops out with 9 bolts.
It's about $1500 in material and labour.

Props SkinnyZ!!!!
I've been awe struck ever since I saw that piece of art!!!!

I've posted that exact pic to explain what a perfect custom Y-pipe looks like...... (I hope that you don't mind)
Unfortunatly mine doesn't look like that, but I'd like to build one!!!! (just have to learn to weld first...)
Fantastic Job

Re: I Need A Y-Pipe For Hedman Longtube Hedders!!!!

I cut and welded the center section of a Bassani True-Dual system to adapt the Dougs' long tubes into it, and although the header flanges still bottom out (car is lowered) the system itself has more ground clearance than the single 4" & Hooker shorties that I took off, increased power substantially, and it sounds fantastic. There are some photos and a link to a short video/sound clip here.
