3" true dual exhaust
I want to put a custom 3" true dual exhaust on to my car. How much labor is involved? I want to remove my A.I.R. pump and cat. I also want to add two wideband oxygen sensors

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
I did exactly what your talking about. Are you planning on doing this yourself? Theres a really good custom exhaust guy near me that I had do my 3" stainless duals, he did a really good job but said it was very challenging. What length headers are you running? I have long tubes and a custom crossmember so ground clearence was a big issue with mine, but they didnt turn out too bad. The ground clearance is a little bit smaller than a pop can on its side. Lemme know how your thinking of running them under the car.

do you have pictures of your ride? Did you remove your smog componenets.
P.S. what do you recomend for performence steering and suspension?

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
lol the crossfire... ya i read that after i left my post. But to answer your question I removed all emissions junk from my car when I did my LT1 swap. I went with Hookers, and if you look up the SLP firehawk... that is where I got my idea to run my exhuast. Unfortunetly I havent gotten any pics of my exhuast on here yet :-/ but I do have some pics of my swap.. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-ltx-swap.html from when I posted them a while ago. And as for suspension I went with SPOHN, they have an ad on here, but I really liked their stuff. Very nice, easy installation, and they were very helpful when I called and had a question. The only thing suspension wise I didn't go with with spohn was sub frame connectors. I got the weld in box style UMI ones.

86LT1, you said you have a custom crossmember and ground clearance is still a problem? does it have notches in it for the pipes?

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
No it does not have notches for duals, I have a crossmember w/ driveshaft loop from SPOHN. And with the full length headers creating a true dual exhaust was a problem with ground clearance. Its just at the one point where my one pipe from the driver side crosses under the crossmember and is only about 3" off the ground. Like i said its a little less than that of a pop can on its side. That was the only point where it was an issue, other than that the exhaust ran perfectly down the rest of the car. (keep in mine I do not have cats on this exhaust either) And if you are going to run duals whether it be 3" or less I would def. base my engineering of the exhaust off of how SLP ran the firehawk duals.

A 3" dual exhaust on a stock little 305 is not a good idea. Its truly a waste of money unless your dropping in something with over 500+ hp in the future.

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
well i figured i'd ask because i was flipping through my summit catalog, and they have crossmembers with notches to allow a dual exhaust with a fair amount of ground clearance. unfortunately the F-bodies only go up to 81. but the G-bodies go up to 88. they also have universal and custom, though i don't know how good those are

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
Sometime down the road, I would either put a 350ci V8, a GE T700 or Rolls Royce Allison 250 Turboshaft Turbine or do a complete ground up performance overhaul of the 305.

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
I would wait until you definitely do the motor, it'd be a waste of time, $$ and ground clearance for absolutely no benefit other than saying you have true duals on a thirdgen.

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
personally I am a big fan of the LV100-5 now that is a tight engine to build !!!
you would have some big power there of course you will need quad 8" exhaust to support it !!!!

Re: 3" true dual exhaust
if you aren't too concerned with clearance, i had a true dual 3" made for my ls1 swap. Cost about 450 using cheap 30 dollar chamber mufflers. pipes come almost staright back, hammered in a little to clear the trans crossmember. Mufflers are before axle, then tailpipes goes under axle and out in the normal spots. muffler to tailpipe has a 3 bolt flange to take the tail pipes off when i feel like it / working on the rear
its real low by the mufflers, but I live in Florida so 99% of the time that system is fine
it drones like hell too, but for as cheap as it is, theres still great sound to it
