Smog Removal
I've searched quite a few times on this and wanting to finalize what I understand.
My question is what exactly needs to be removed? And would someone supply pictures of each things or highlight what I need to remove. I own a 1989 Camaro 305TBI.
My buddy told me its also routed to the coolant valve that controls the heater which allows coolant to the core (which i dont believe).
What I understand.
Belt Needed: Dayco #935K6 which is a 6 rib 96.8" belt
There was also another belt supplied P/N: 10186167 (which i have no clue if it relates to the dayco?..

Re: Smog Removal
there should be some pretty detailed info on this swap here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine
the belt number you gave is not going to be correct - 935k6 is a 93.5" 6-rib belt (only good if you have an underdrive crank pulley) you need a 968k6 (or 5060968 if you want dayco, the other number's dayco's economy driverite belt)
you are not adding any additional components (coolant valve), just rerouting the belt around the components you currently have.

thier is a thread basically show the exhaust manifold and the air tubes. manifold dont need to be removed but it shows the hoses going across

thier is the thread about the smog pump itself and if you dont want to change the belt. I changed the belt. no problems.

Re: Smog Removal
Simple- remove the smog pump which will get rid of alot tubes and stuff. You also need to get rid of the egr valve that is near the y-pipe as it won't allow exhaust flow if left in. Then take the belts and run them. Youl have to cut one of the belts to fit since you got rid of the smog pump. Bring the belt to auto zone and theyll find a size that fits. Thats what I did.

Re: Smog Removal
I had the same problem of finding belts after removing the smog pump. so, what I did is cut the belt to the lenght that I needed and brought it to auto zone and they found one simiar in size.

Re: Smog Removal
I too had to experiment with belt sizes - I started with the one in the tech article, but had to trade in once or twice to get the right size for me.
One other thing - part of the AIR system is a small silver tube that runs up from the cat converter - I cut mine at the cat, pinched it closed with vice grips, and welded it shut (blow torch and metal coat hanger).

Re: Smog Removal
Since you two have the "correct" belt length, do you know what the length is? kind of hard for me to cut the belt and some how get to the parts store and hope they have the right length belt...

Sorry, I don't remember. I sold that car a few years back. And my 1992 is set up with a whole different configuration.

Re: Smog Removal
If your getting rid of the smog pump and not installing the delete pulley. You will need a belt 2.6 inches longer than stock. Unless you have underdrive pulleys then you'll need a belt 1 inch shorter than stock. So basically get the belt size off the belt you have on your car and go up 2.6 inches (or as close to it as you can) a little smaller might work, and it will stretch a little. A little bigger should work too

Re: Smog Removal
my belt preference is goodyear gatorback. I have a hard time finding them. So I either run Gates premium belts, or dayco poly cog (hard to find too) You can also find a dayco poly rib which isnt bad either. I dont run Duralast brand, or cheap lines of any belt.
