Re: header gasket?

No - nothing can take the heat. Do yourself a favor, use Earl's Dead Soft aluminum or copper header gaskets. They are thick, and get mashed on install, sealing all leaks really really well. And use some kind of locking header bolts, or else you'll be retightening header bolts every day/week.

good luck

I toss those away, I don't use Felpros or any copper gaskets............all junk.

The past 6 header installs I did all were with dead soft aluminum gaskets. 5 were with Percy's Seal-4-Good and the last one I tried Mr Gasket dead soft aluminum. No leaks at all.

So, ask yourself, is it worth $30 to have no leaks and do it once, or do you want to take your chances and have to fight with an exhaust leak?

Re: header gasket?

i've used the percys dead soft on my slp's, their flanges suck, honestly, they are terrible, and these sealed right up. Worth every penny.

and headerbolts, you dont need locking, but if you dont use locking, you have to retorque every couple heat cycles till they stop moving, may take several times.

kind of a curious thing. Posters will spend weeks watching youtube videos about exhaust, and then make post upon post here but won't take the advice about the most important aspect of it, the gaskets. I'm not saying that about this OP but read how many posts had issues where the O2's weren't doing their job because of exhaust leaks at the headers. $30 and you don't have to look back

Re: header gasket?

And, for anyone else that might stumble across this and need help with REAL WORLD WORKING HEADER BOLTS that NEVER back out ever ... The Split-Lock bolts cannot be beat by anything - period. I'd never spend money ever again on Stage 8 or any other brands. The split-locks were first on the market by Breslin, and now Percy's has made them as well. I have the Breslin brand (Percy didn't make them back when I needed something), and after trying many numerous brands, nothing comes close to these. They aren't cheap ($70 - $90 a set), but worth every penny! I installed mine, and 4 years later, I've yet to ever once have to retighten even one of them.

Re: header gasket?

ive been told its best to get the square gaskets so they mate up with the actual engine, and the headers are round anyway with them being tubular

Re: header gasket?

I got a set of Mr Gaket Ultraseal gaskets #5907 today, my headers are at miami airport according to my tracking number so hopefully they will turn up here soon.

I wanted a set of Percy's aluminium gaskets but nobody will post a set to the UK, stupid ! so im hoping these Mr Gasket ones are good. and im also hoping they fit, they have got a triangular shaped cut in one side, but then its totally straight on the other, hmm ?

Re: header gasket?

I only use fel-pro 1404 thru 1407 gaskets 1" long normal arp bolts (3/8head) with anti-seize on them and NEVER had a prob. Only snug them up 1 time after a heat cycle and done..
I have even reused the gaskets 6 times (sometimes on dif motors and header styles) just to test them.

Re: header gasket?

After just putting on my new al. heads,I can't get my shorty Hooker headers to seal at the manifold. I just used the gaskets that came with the gasket set Fel Pro KS2600 (I think right #)and the header bolts with anti-seize .Before I pull them and get the soft al. gaskets I will try your suggestion.... The heads have 1.4" square ports and I believe the headers are larger round ports. No one actually answered the previous question of "which size and type do you purchase" head port -square or header type round and larger...thanks

Percy's Seal-4-Good or Mr Gasket dead soft aluminum and your problems go away

Felpro makes good head gaskets, oil pan gaskets etc, they just don't make good header gaskets.

Re: header gasket?

I accept that fact but to get the right ones ,do I get the size and shape of the headers(round@1.625") or square (manifold)@1.4sq? I am in no way cheap,as I have spent thousands of dollars on this engine,I just want the right ones.I have spent so much on "after the fact" info. I rely on the overall savvy of the people on this site to make the right choices.Different people have tried different things,I just want the concensus of the overall group to purchase the right product the first time. I truly am thankful for this website to help me...

Re: header gasket?

I used the gaskets that came with my 2055's. They were fine the 4 years I had them in the car. After the H/C/I swap, I used FelPro's. And 2 years later still no issues.
