engine drop in with headers on?
Time is closing in on dropping my engine back into the car and after searching I can't find much info on whether or not I can install the headers and drop it in all together. Should I lay the headers out in the engine bay and drop the motor in and connect them then?

Not likely you can do it with the headers installed.

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
I have Hedman shorties and installed the engine+transmission with the passenger side header bolted on. When the engine was about an 1/2" - 1" or so above the driver side mount, I sneaked the driver side header into position but didn't bolt it on until the engine was secure in the mounts.

Maybe some brands, but its still unlikely. It was a no with my edelbrocks, and they had tiny flanges. Plus the less things in the way when you have an engine swinging around the better. It would be a good idea to tie them in place at the sides of the bay though, less struggle trying to slide them in and less chance of scratching the paint on your engine.

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
Would it make any difference if everything was removed from the bay? I've been working this on a ground up build so the only thing currently back in the bay is the heater case and steering shaft. I've been holding off on putting all other things back in until the motors back in place. That would be a pretty easy drop I would think with everything on. I'm going to drop the motor and tranny as a pair and was hoping to have headers on too. The cars up on jack stands on all fours too so there's plenty of room below.

Mine will go in with the right side on ...
Like he said, drop the left side in as the motor goes down in.

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
I dropped mine with both headers on with no problem and I have the SLP's 1 3/4 headers. Don't be afraid! Just try it. Once the engine is almost all the way in then start hooking up the wires in back of the heads. It make things a lot eaiser when done that way.

Think I did it with the Edelbrock headers on... just took a lot of wiggling and checking.

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
I always leave my headers on and spark plugs on with my edelcrap headers, only thing you need to do is drop the steering shaft to give a little bit of wiggle room or else you are putting the passenger header INTO the air conditioning condensor box (silicone fix anybody)

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
Didn't work with mine, got tired and took them off. If you have someone helping you it might be possible. I was using the flowtech shorties at the time and it was a very tight fit.

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
I was lucky, engine minus transmission, came out and went in with headers and acessories.

Re: engine drop in with headers on?
I dropped mine in with them fully bolted on the last 2 or 3 times. Flotech shorties, though. Don't know that I'd try it w/ LT's, especially with a T5.
