STUCK WITH HEADER ON DRIVER SIDE LO5
I have finally started the big overhaul on my LO5 engine.
I will also add a cam and dual exhaust line with headers.
I have bought a pair of AFTERBURNER (SS coated) and the passenger side went in OK.
However I cannot install the driver side (the access is very good) due to the fact that the last tube is blocked by the oil pressure sending unit.
On the LO5 it is quite long and it is exactly where the tube has to be ...
What is the solution ???
is there any way to connect it via a 90° elbow ? relocate ?
how ?? (I am stuck here ...)
Thanks fo your guidance !

i dont remember having to relocate any sensors when doing my last set of headers, but you can definitely get adapters for swinging it 90° out of the way. unscrew the sensor and bring it to your local auto part store or hardware store; should be regular npt pipe fittings if i remember correctly. had to do this myself recently with my LSx swap due to some clearance issues i had at the back of the intake.

Well, my problem with those little standard parts is that they are not generally available in my country.
We have only metric stuff and this sensor is 1/4 - 18 NPT.
Summit do not propose anything for me this time and then it hard to find !! (local drugstore do not sell international ...)
I removed the sensor and now the headers fit really great !!! but I can't put it back in place. it is just above the oil filter - see the pictures with and without !!

WHY IS THIS SENSOR SO LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ????????????????????

Re: STUCK WITH HEADER ON DRIVER SIDE LO5
in that case, it may be worth grabbing some taps and dies and making your own adapters. even if local car part shops don't have anything, a good plumbing supply place should be able to come up with something
Re: STUCK WITH HEADER ON DRIVER SIDE LO5
Rear china wall of the block is a plug, remove it and use it to plug the hole for the sender. Move the sender up to the rear china wall. You may have to use an angled adapter to clear stuff. Like these

Too bad you're overseas. We can pick either of these up at a local hardware store for a few bucks

Re: STUCK WITH HEADER ON DRIVER SIDE LO5
Order in UK was out of stock (and was quite expensive 30 pounds!) so I cancelled the order
In the meantime I found on Ebay a pneumatic shop who sells adapter at 90° and 45° and extensions too.
The thread is 1/4 NPT (not 1/8 NPT like the summit links you provided)
Pneumatic lines use a lot of 1/4 NPT and on the ebay they cost only 3 to 5 USD so I bought several of them
I hope one combination will work OK.
Will keep the post updated when I receive them.
By the way, where is exactly the plug you mention on the block ??? does it have same thread ? (1/4 NPT) ?
Thanks again !

SBCs have two oil ports. One on the rear china wall and the one you're having trouble with. One is normally plugged while the other is in use. Remove the plug from the rear china wall and move it to the interfering sender. The angled fittings are to manipulate the sender to avoid obstacles at the rear of the intake

Ok,
just having trouble with "china wall" terminology ... sorry.
Thanks for the link to standard materials !! if they ship international they can be of great help for many items I have difficulties with !! (added to my favorites ;-)
I have to remove the intake manifold and the heads (swaping camshaft, rebuilding heads, boosting TBI, installing better valves, beehive springs and full roller rockers ... all together with the new exhaust)
this is a lot of fun ! (but my wallet - and wife - do not really understand all this ...)
MONSTER - MONSTER GARAGE !!!

China wall is the term for the front and rear block ridges that seal the front/rear of the intake. If you have the intake off, you will see the areas and plug

Re: STUCK WITH HEADER ON DRIVER SIDE LO5
My 85TA had it up here:

My vette has it up there too, along with the pressure switch (the one that keeps it from starting if the pressure is low) on a T fitting. It has an oil temperature sender by the filter.
Actually there's probably space to screw it in straight up without that tall elbow adapter. But I dont remember now, maybe the wiper motor or something is in the way. They also make ones that work the same but with a smaller "can".
I'm pretty sure that the one by the oil filter screws into a bigger hole though, so you might need more adapters, or maybe it would work to use one for another year. I dont know if they're electrically compatible.

Re: STUCK WITH HEADER ON DRIVER SIDE LO5
Far better with picture !!! great !
The Caprice and Roadmaster Wagon have a tight clearance in this area. this is also why GM had to use a more compact ignition distributor. In any case when intake and heads are out I will definitely have a good access to this plug. And I will see what fits and what does not (will post pictures when I am there)
Thank you guys !
