Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
Just dropped a 350 in my 89 rs after i did the tranny and got rid of the 305. Only problem, I still have stock exhaust. But, the converter was taken off long before i got the car, and the idk what they with the muffler but its not stock, the manifolds and pipe going back is. it is loud as hell as it is but its still crap.
Recommended headers? I want to get something i can put on fairly easy without much difficulty. Something that is best for perfomance and deep sound.
Pipes and muffler? straight duals or what? I have listened to the borla exhaust on 350s before and I love the deep tone from them. and glass packs to but not sure what they are. Are glass packs good? I no there loud as hell but thats all I no.
Im sure you have an idea of what I am looking for by now. Best performance as usual and good deep tone sound. Give me some ideas.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
I used the summit cheapo shorties into true duals all the way back, My mufflers are just baffled. Idk the brand or anything. Sounds like a cross between glass packs n open headers. Its real loud(when on it), but I havent gotten in trouble for em Ill take a vid tomorrow if you are interested.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
Heh, That setup was bolted to a new motor. So I really cant tell you there. But I can tell you my motor breathes plenty well. And I really love the sound, I wanted super 44's for that old school muscle car sound, But I actually like what I got better. Nice thing is as long as you arent on it and you are under 3500 its quiet enough to drive through neighborhoods at night without pissing everyone off. And it doesnt drone as bad as cherry bombs or 44s would. But yeah Ill get a vid after work tomorrow

Hooker 2055s & The Catback that sounds the best for you.
Everyone says the same thing, Flowmaster sounds ok but flows like crap, Magnaflow is best bang for the buck. If I was on a budget that is what I would go.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
There is no need for true duals to be honest. There is Shortie Headers out there and Catbacks that can support a good amount of power. I am just running a Y pipe with my Longtubes. No need for duals even with my plans for the winter.
Don't go duals, if you can fab it up yourself to make it tuck nicely then do it. Otherwise pay for a good clearance system. Most half-assed systems I have seen and I did once are not worth the clearance issues.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
i agree true duals on a street driven car are a waste and a pain in the butt ive also been there and one that. im running the 3in magnaflow cat back on my 92 and it had a 2 1/4 exhaust before with the flowmaster. the magnaflow has a nice deep mellow tone and really comes alive under wot. i plan to put shortys and a custom built 3in y pipe on it this winter to help it out a bit. i had longtubes on my 82 ta i had with a custom built y pipe with a cutout under the rear seat an a stock 4th gen muffler and it sounded and performed great. ran shortys with no cat on the 82 with a magnaflow muffler but 2 1/4 pipes at one time too.

Yep amazing bang for the buck. It gives a nice deep tone and hides alot of cam lope for those running a bit extra under the hood and want a sleeper.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
Thats cool. $500.00 is allot to pay for two black lines, and that dose not include installation ,etc.,etc.,etc.Maybe yours is a little tired. I hear it happens to the older stock posi.I'm not trying to take away from the exhaust thread. Sorry. I am running the Flowmaster American Thunder 3in.Cat Back with a high flow Magnaflow Cat. No videos yet so this is not me or my car but sounds similar to mine. Of course I don't think videos of the way a cars exhaust sounds really does them any justice. They just sound so much better in person. = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld3GsWl6znA Any way that's the Flowmaster sound. Some like it,some don't.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
i noticed a good gain in all rpms the cat was cloging also so i put on a 3in magnaflow cat at the same time ive got some videos of me autocrossing the car with both the flowmaster and the magnaflow setup if your interested in the under load sounds. it deff seems like it pulls better 3000+ rpm well as good as a tpi motor will i guess lol.

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?
This leads me to believe that the single 3" exhaust pipe is far more restrictive than the mufflers accompanying them

Re: Next step: Exhaust. Recommendations?

They are all pretty close, but now you have to choose based on exhaust note, and tone preference.
The hooker aerochamber has just about ZERO drone. I've heard it both on LT1 and LS1 cars and it sounds amazing on both. I will never go flowmaster, I can't stand the noise it makes. Just like I'd never put a SLP Loudmouth on the car, I hate that noise too.
However, I love my SLP 2otL cat-back, and I love the Aerochamber. If the SLP 2otL muffler is too loud with my heads/cam motor I'm going to replace it with a 3" in, parallel 2.5" dual out Aerochamber muffler that fits int he same place so I can keep my 2otL look and have aerochamber noise I prefer. I also am considering similar mufflers from the Borla XS line, and the Hooker Max Flow.
