newby quest.

i want to know something that may be a rookie ques. but maybe someone can help me. I have a new 355 with Hooker Headers 2466HKR and a xe268h cam. And I am looking to put tru duals with 3in pipe front to back.

What is the best muffler for these cars? I love a low tone rumble i don't want it to roar unless I get on it. Also this is going on a car with no CAT. here in NC if its not 96 and up they don't even look. How do muffler shops sell mufflers? I guess what I'm asking is how do you know that what they are offering or showing you or what you are choosing is going to sound the way you want it to? is there a sound board you go to on the computer and they let you choose based on that? I don't want it to sound a 4x4 mud truck, or like a rice burning beetle.

I want it sound like a chevy v8. Oh well if anyone can help me out on how this works i would appreciate it because I am almost ready for it thanx.

Re: newby quest.

bullets, glasspacks, magnaflow, cherry bomb, dronemaster !lol!, spintech, dynatech, corsa, borla, I figure all of them are designed for muscle car sound but which gives the best rumble for the money and still allows you to hear your radio and hold a conversation? and remember tru duals. maybe a stupid quest. but IDK so I'm asking, How can sample or should I say hear an example of what the muffler sounds like? does the muffler shop have ways for you to hear samples? plzz help

Re: newby quest.

Best bet is to search around google. There are a variety of sound clips on there or youtube.

I don't know about out there but muffler shops here do not carry performance mufflers at all.

2.5" true dual setup would work with stock routing, else you're looking running it down the transmission tunnel.

Re: newby quest.

Most websites, as well as youtube, have soundclips, I'd go to the magnaflow, cherrybomb, and flowmaster websites and see if you can find a soundclip you like, also going to car shows to hear it in person.

10-4 15/8 primaries to 3in collector to a 2 1/2in tru dual. gotcha and I will try the websites for sound bites. I don't have much time or access to car shows except a few times a year. thx for the responses

Re: newby quest.

If you type in = YouTube, then the year of your car, then the name of the exhaust you want to here, then Camaro you will have a few videos to listen to.
On a side note I have notest that there are quiet a few here that just don't add information to there signature for some reason. When some one asks for help the first thing I do,along with others is look at your signature to see exactly what your driving.Just that information alone can help in getting a decent answer. For those that don't know how to you just go to "user CP" then to "Edit Details" and fill in the last 4 questions ,that's it.

Re: newby quest.

hey fellas what about this setup: true duals, with resonators in place of the CATS and then a pair of thrush welded mufflers and a pair of 2 1/2in-3in chrome tips. and try to have 3in piping from the headers back. no less than 2.5in

3" true duals is too big, I'm not aware of the emissions requirements in your state, but removing the cats may be an issue. If you're going to get true duals you might as well get new headers as well.

EDIT: 3" true duals is to big with good flowing headers, 3" true duals should be ok with stock exhaust manifolds.

Re: newby quest.

Slam one together and put up a sound clip, I am sure you would get lots of advice then.

Re: newby quest.

ok the headers that I have are 1 5/8 primaries into a 3in collector then you say go 2 1/2in reducers and run 2 1/2 in pipes the rest of the way. and the emissions here in four oaks, nc are 96 and up the sniff test and 95 and down the inspectors don't even look. they check the lights, signals, mirrors, windsheild, tires, hazzards, dim and brights, and that's it.
