Collector Inserts?

Hey everyone, I kind of blew the budget on my engine and am left without exhaust. I was throwing around the idea of getting the 3 disk Car Chemistry Collector Inserts and just throwing some turndowns on the ends of the headers for now. Has anyone tried using these and if so what kind of difference did it make with exhaust noise??

If this is a bad route, did anyone else do something similiar right off of the headers (Super Comp)? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Mike

Re: Collector Inserts?

I had just turn downs on the end of my longtubes for a while. ridiculously loud, but doable for the short term. Depends on how close of attention the police pay to your car.

Thats what i'm afraid of. This thing can be heard from miles away. Just trying to tone it down a bit as to not attract too many cops. It's not a daily driver either. There has to be a way without spending a grand on exhaust..

Depending on your money situation and local shops, my exhaust cost less than 200 bucks, true duals that dump just before the rear axle.

Ha, thanks. I have a TH350 transmission btw (you also have an automatic so I figured it's worth mentioning). The pipe size is 2.5"

It's about as simple as you can get lol.

Heck, i have a MIG and torches. I might try this one myself. The most expensive pieces would be the mufflers..

Re: Collector Inserts?

Go for it. My mufflers are the Thrush welded turbo mufflers, they give good sound and don't break the bank.

To be honest, it doesn't really make the car that much quieter...it just relocates the sound behind you, haha. Makes it possible to have conversations in the car, and listen to music, which is nice.

Re: Collector Inserts?

i have a set of those inserts in my headers, and have my sweet thunder mufflers on down the line. even with all the restrictors in them i dont think i could get away with just the inserts on the street. i added them to take the sharp edge off that the sweet thunders had
