Headers or Headache

Thanks for the add first and foremost!
My son and I am working on a 83 Z28 project and ran into issues with headers. I have tried several types but nothing fits. Can someone direct me to the right headers and part number. Here is the mods we have done to the vehicle.

1983 Camaro Z28 (Calif emission)
removed 305 saved the 700R4
Built a 79 Vortech 350 into a 383 with Flotech 180 heads
All original put back on including AC

Can someone tell me what headers I need as everything I tried hits the trans or the control arm

Thank you
Mike

Re: Headers or Headache

If you removed the motor make sure when putting the clamshells back there are passenger and drivers side. If you mix them no headers will fit correctly.

Re: Headers or Headache

What headers are you using? This may be obvious, but with many early muscle cars, you could buy pretty much any small block chevy header and it would fit. Thirdgens require thirdgen specific headers. Shorties are more plentiful and fit better, but there are some longtubes that fit as well.

Not sure if your emissions equipment includes air tubes but If it doesn't. the Hedman 68460 fit with no mods whatsoever. Drivers side goes in from below, passenger side drops in from the top (with the starter removed). I can't comment on the A/C as I don't have any.

Skinny, I am having HUGE fitment issues with mine. Been awhile sense I've been on as I decided to repaint the z. Lots and lots of time and money. Looks great. B4 I put it together I want to get under the hood buttoned up. I have a powerhouse starter and these headman headers and I've had to beat the crap out of them to even be able to get them into position. Still a mile away from actually being able to bolt them up. I will start a new thread w updates on the car and pics of header fitment. I'm very discussed with how they fit however I know they can be dented significantly wo affecting flow.

Re: Headers or Headache

I have a Vortec 350 in my '87 and went with the Summit shorties and didn't have a fitment issue at all with the headers, but the Y pipe was a whole other story...

Re: Headers or Headache

you need to remove your starter to install the headers, you need to remove the plugs to install the headers and you need to do some serious twisting and acrobatics to install the passenger side .If you removed the motor make sure when putting the clamshells back there are passenger and drivers side. If you mix them no headers will fit correctly.

Re: Headers or Headache

So what's the update on this? Are the clamshells correct?
