Cat delete worth it?
Cat delete worth it?
Previous owner put a magnaflow exhaust system on the 87 Formula 350 I bought. I had plans of gutting the cat but it has a new magnaflow cat on it. Is it worth it to gut a high flow cat? The car is already plenty loud.
thanks in advance for the replies.

Probably not a big difference in power if the car is stock or even mildly modified.
Re: Cat delete worth it?
The raw exhaust smell will get old really fast...
I have a 1971 Camaro that I put cats on back in the mid-90's because I got sick of it (and I was only in my early 20's). Ended up getting Walker high-flo's. Didn't notice any loss in power.
That was with a 350. But even now, with my 383... I'm not sure if the cats are costing me any power, but it's a worthwhile trade. But suffice it to say, it doesn't seem like the engine is suffering from lack of power...lol

Federal law still applies against cat converter removal. law but may depend on the state.
here in Canada, if your vehicle came from the factory with a cat, and if u get stopped by the Ministry of Transport , it will cost a whole load of $$$ &/or U can lose your vehicle. Leave the cat on.

Re: Cat delete worth it?
Considering the technology behind the design of cats produced today, absolutely nothing is to be gained by gutting it, hacking it off, eliminating it, etc. I put a 3” Magnaflow cat on my 84 15th Anniversary that ran 12.teens and the car didn’t lose so much as a tenth. And as mentioned above, the smell gets old really quick. I expect to smell exhaust fumes coming from my 67 Chevelle, not my thirdgens.

I decided just to leave the cat, I have a few exhaust leaks to fix but other than that it sounds and runs good. I have a few obnoxious loud, rich smelling cars….. it’s nice to have some that are a little more refined.

MTO in Ontario go underneath and point a thermometer at the CAT if they suspect something. I'm not kidding.

Well that's a good thing nothing East of Alberta interests me. I usually just go south. I worked in Ontario for 1 month and couldn't wrap my head around how any of y'all can call that place home
