Exhaust Help

I am looking to replace the exhaust on my 1985 Iroc 5.0. I have the 4 bolt flange cat and intermediate pipe set up. Any systems for this type of set up or any intermediate pipes with the 4 bolt flange. I am having trouble finding a pipe or kit that will work.

Thx

Re: Exhaust Help

If you can't find one, could you chop the 4 bolt flange off your old exhaust, then chop and weld it to the front of your new "standard" aftermarket exhaust?

Re: Exhaust Help

That's what I was thinking of doing. The pipe after the flange is oval in shape buy eventually goes to 2.75". I would need to seem it at the point it goes back to round.

Re: Exhaust Help

Yep. Or if your aftermarket mid pipe is bigger (like 3"), you could cut the flange off that at the appropriate place, then slightly smash/ovalize it, then slip it over your 4 bolt flange cut off pipe and see where it matches the 4 bolt flange's pipe cross section and shape, cut and weld them together there.

Re: Exhaust Help

The cat back kits used to offer the 4-bolt flange option, but I haven't seen one in quite a while. I think the suggestion of using your old flange and a little bit of the existing pipe and adapting it to the new intermediate pipe is the best option.

Re: Exhaust Help

Thanks. May just use the current intermediate pipe for now. I had to cut it off at the muffler to get it off. So ordering these Tail Pipes
Amazon Amazon
Amazon Amazon

Then will get a muffler and a small piece for the inlet of the muffler to intermediate pipe.
Will be the cheapest option for now being that I am in the middle of restoring the car.
Any opinions on muffler ?
Was looking at the Dynomax Super Turbo

And the Magnaflow

Opinions ?

Re: Exhaust Help

I have the Dynomax muffler (actually the entire exhaust system) no complaints. It has a nice sound IMO. Like the title says "turbo", the sound reminds me of the old generic "turbo" mufflers/dual exhaust that the local exhaust shop would put on before there was "name brand" besides Thrush Glass Packs from the 70s came on the scene.

Re: Exhaust Help

Muffler choice is personal preference and very subjective. Depends a lot on what you want. Dynomax is going to be closest to the original exhaust note, marginally louder. Magnaflow is louder than Dynomax, with a deeper tone. I had a Magnaflow on my car 20 years ago and liked it back then, but these days it would be louder than I would like. I guess I'm just getting old.
