Center Console Fabrication

Has anybody out there made a new center console for our cars? Mine is pretty much falling to peices, and i did a search, but couldnt find a thread about fabbing up a new center console. I would love to put a stock one back in the car, but i can't seem to find one that I know is in good shape for less than about $100. HELP!!

Here in Denver there are a lot of good junkyards that have center consoles.
You want the console for the tranny right (center console)??
I'll see if I can pick one up for ya for cheap. Let me know.
Next time I go I'll take pics of any that are there, and if its good enough I'll grab it.

Damn, I only get paid once a month so I have to wait for one more week before I do get paid. Than I am going to a junk yard finding stuff. I'll check the consoles if they are in good shape. I'll grab one for you. I cant see it going over 20-30 bucks max. So ill let you know and we go from there. Check the articles or do a search I belive one of the memebers did a resto project on the center console. It came out great.
Go to the Denver area in coloradof-body its where all the crap talk happens. We all like to talk smack but dont let that throw you off. These people are very good people.
Late.

awesome! thanks for the help, and as it be the info. I have to be stuck in the a$$hole of CO, (pueblo), so there happens to be nothing good in the junkyards.

Its OK, but you should come down to denver and go to some club parties. It gest wild. Karaoke is awsome and the cars are just amazing.
I get paid next friday, so I'll check the junkyards for ya. Plus I might get some sexy backlights too.

Actually, i think i may have an idea for the center console i currently have.... how about stripping the vinyl stuff off of the shell, (since its peeling off anyway...) and fiberglassing the shell to smooth it out, and painting it? Would it be more effort than it was worth you think?

Went to the local junkyard with a lot of cars and only saw 3 third gens. 2 camaros 1firebird. The bird didn't have the console and the camaros ones were crap. I didnt think you would want a camaro one anyway, but if its in good shape, it would be good to put it in. Anyway, sorry I didnt find anything. Tomrow I am going to another junk yard and I know they have a camaro there. Maybe still that old TA which had the center console in decent condition but it was a manual console.

Now, go to the tech articles and you'll find how to restore yours. Its actually easy. I did it the bad way and drilled the stuff in that was hanging out. It looks out of place now, but if drilled with some black shiny screws around the perimiter it would look nice.
Anyway I'll let you know what happens tomrow.

If you can fiberglass good than go ahead do whatever you think would be good. Just make sure you have some ventilation cuz that crap stinks.

Good luck.

P.S. Its a lot better when people dont know how to sing, cuz than its fun. Just imagine if the guys could sing. Now, that would be a stupid party.

A party would be worth your drive, trust me. These guys are more like family, than a club with pompus asses only talking to certain people.

Well that sucks that they didn't have one. but i am pretty sure that i am just going to glass the one i have. My neighbor does the interiors in hot rods, and so he gave me some tips on how to do it. so im going to try that, and hopefully it will work out ok. right now im more focused on getting my motor to work.

Thanks for looking though!

As for the party, it might be fun if i was allowed to do anything ever, but right now is not a good time for me to be around a lot of people. plus the fiancee might not like it too much

no not yet unfortunately, haven't had the time to get her outside. the tricky part was making the wood version slightly smaller so that the fiberglass version was the right width, that and making the rear support where it flows upword strong enough once that section was hollowed out. i have it fitted in the car but haven't decided what route to finish it as far as using abs trim, matching paint or material.

That console is sweet. If I were to do something like that, I can make enough space to fit a laptop and a small screen on which a KITT would be. Defenetly post some progress on this console. Its an awsome idea.
Anyone else made a custom console??
