Almost in the 2700's

Had a few minutes today to put my car on the scales, and was happy to see 2839 lbs. It had 1517 lbs on the front and 1322 lbs on the rear, 1417 lbs on the right side and 1422 lbs on the left side. Pretty good for a car with factory 92 Z28 16" wheels and street radial tires and over a half tank of gas. Now a question...... The car has a full factory dash with a heater core... how much weight removal can I get if I remove the heater core and all the air ducts and anything else under the dash that is not needed?

the heater/AC ducting itself is quite light. i would not be surprised if it all weighed less then one pound. the heater core and box are a little bit more heavy. I unfortunatly have never weighed a heater box but they are atleast 5LBs including the core. perhaps more

BTW nice job cutting so much weight.

You'll also lose a some coolant capacity when you pull the heater core and hoses, you can probably get 12-15 pounds from behind the dash alone. If the blower motor and it's housing are still there that'll be another 6-8 pounds, but you'll have to patch a couple of big holes in the firewall if you pull it.

Going from functional heat to no ventilation at all is probably good for close to 20 pounds altogether. Most of it will be on the passenger side of the car, so your side-side weight distribution will end up a little more skewed than it is now. If your heat is already disabled and the core/ducting is all that's left of it then you probably won't get more than 8 or 9 pounds out of it.

Per your request some pictures of my car tonight, The first is fitting the air inlet for the super ram after removing the stealth ram, the second is the interior just the way it was scaled.

Man, that's crazy - my GTA scaled at 3730 with my 220 lb carcass inside, but the only weight-reduction I'd done at that point was partial removal of the A/C system. I've since replaced the stock front bumper support w/ an aluminum one, & I'm hoping to make a significant dent in that weight before summer...

aside from the fiberglass hood and removing the A/C, carpet and seats... what did you remove? i'm amazed at the stuff you still have yet weigh that little while also having added a cage. I have to assume you removed the impact bars completely. What tranny do you run? Aluminum engine block? Tubular k-member, removed sway bars, gutted doors? You could definitely shave some more weight removing the interior heater diverter box and the blower motor. As pointed out already, the reduction in coolant volume shouldn't be overlooked... that definitely helps drop weight
