tpi air box!

I know it it isn't finished but I know it flows better than it did stock. I have k&n's with it too. I'm thinking of cutting into the plastic panel underneath the air box and running some tubes from the air box down to where the grill is. And dropping the back part of the tubes about a 1/4 of an inch into the grill to force some fresh air to the motor. I can hear a difference but havn't had a chance to drive it since I installed it. I also have a stock one with the little baffles removed and when I go to the dyno in about 2 weeks to a month I'll run both to see if there's an actual difference. If you have done something similar let me know how it turned out and if you have pics i would love to see them.

Re: tpi air box!

If anyone has any other ideas i'm open to them. This is done this way because I have the maf so I can't just put a filter on the end of the trottle body. I do believe this will be a benefit even with it unfinished since the motor will have more area to pull air from and will be less work to get the air to it. Since before it was a closed area and had little holes to get air into the air box and now is completley open.

Re: tpi air box!

I'm interested to see what you find out from the Dyno. I've been wondering if I should do this, but I never got around to it.

Re: tpi air box!

there are a few companies that make these, you cut the bottom of factory air box out and connect the box to the air inlefts behind the fogs on the grill.

Re: tpi air box!

It is really simple, and cheap. All you need is a saw and the tubing and some fasteners to do it yourself. I'll make a post on here when I get down to the dyno and let you know the numbers.

Re: tpi air box!

yeah if you do a search quite a few members have posted similiar things, most seem to use dryer ducting.. probably wont help too much on the dyno unless the fan in front of it is really really strong.. gains will be more noticeable at high speed. A test at the drag strip would be more effective, one without and one with back to back..

Looks like your building what's been posted on TGO for years already.

Re: tpi air box!

If you say so. I havn't seen it before. It just made sense when I looked at the air box one night and since I had three of them sitting around i decided to cut one up.

Re: tpi air box!

did this last year or w/e it was... made a little difference. Definately hear it suckin up air now, and definately gets the filter dirtier much quicker

will help at speed as teh 'ram' air effect will take place.

Re: tpi air box!

Good thing I got K&N's. Save some money on air filters. I'm really looking forward to getting it on the dyno. I'll also bring my digital camera and record it. I'm pretty sure that it is real close to 300HP at the flywheel before the airbox and the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I'll do my base line with the stock pressure and stock airbox. Then I'll bring the pressure to where it likes it the best then swap out the airbox and do another run for a true reading on hp gains. I've got a couple threads that i'll post the info up on so everyone can see.

Re: tpi air box!

Yeah but that's why they put a huge fan in front of the car while it's on the dyno to simulate the air moving at speed.

exactly, no where near that, it's simply there to help keep the car from overheating..

Re: tpi air box!

Either way it will still tell wether it helps it breath better. That's the whole point. You should be able to tell that even while it's sitting still.

No. There isn't enough clearance between the radiator wall & the hood for the Camaro air y-piece.
