Plans for home built subframe connectors

Hi, Ive done some searching and seen some that have been done, but what I am looking for is a set of detailed plans with a materials list, dimensions, and assembly plans to build my own subframe connectors for my car.

I have a plasma cutter, mig welder, metal band saw, chop saw and everything else I will need to build them, but I am trying to save alot of time fabricating everything from scratch so I am trying to save some cash, and time as I need a set for my 84 Trans Am, my sons 86 Z28 and his best friends car also, I figured if I could find the plans somewhere it would be just as easy to cut and build them all at one time not to mention the time and money it would save me, I've seen the UMI's and they look simple to build something along those lines, If anyone has a link to something I would sure appreciate it, I dont post on here much but I sure spend alot of time looking here, you guys have been priceless in the information that I have obtained from this site building my and my sons car, thanks guys

Re: Plans for home built subframe connectors

sure will, and do me a favor if you find any let me know, I'm still looking, and I'm getting real close to needing them, just picked up my MSD full ignition system today, and working with a guy on here about some 2210 full length headers, all I got left is my intake if I get those and I'm ready to drop my stroker in, I guess if I dont find any plans by then I will just build a set and copy them for the other cars, If it gets to that I will save my plans and get you a copy, man I was really hoping to save some time, but thats hotrodding....nothing ever easy...LOL

Re: Plans for home built subframe connectors

I built my own, didn't like the way the store bought one's were designed... So naturally they're a bit different I tied from the rear structure to the front structure, then welded them to the floor, so far they're all welded on the inside of the car, the bottom will be welded once the car is on the rotissierie.... A bit more work and it means taking the car almost totally apart, but it is really, really solid now, the flex is gone!!!! Pics in my gallery if you're interested.

Re: Plans for home built subframe connectors

Yes, it started life as the stock Berlinetta hood. So far it's just roughed in as a 2 step cowl induction hood, total rise of 5" at the rear. I've got to finish the sheetmetal work, then a bit of dingin' and pingin' followed by a bunch of filler till I get it blocked and smoothed enough to use it as a plug for a fiberglass hood... Still have to figure some sort of opening on the rear to get rid of some of the underhood heat.... I have to get my pickup finished up and either sold or put in the warehouse for the winter, then it's back to the Camaro and a drag car I'm building for next summer---but it's a brand X, so probably best to not mention it here!!!!!!

Re: Plans for home built subframe connectors

I made my own about 18 months ago now. I just got about 16 ft of 2X1 rectangular steel and cut to fit. I ran them straight up from where the rear LCA attaches to the body support @ the front of the car, then ran cross beams from there to the frame rails by the transmission. No plans really needed, just get in the garage & let the sparks fly
