I'm thinking this is the proper place to post...

After I noticed that the air cleaner extension hose/tube that bolts next to the radiator was missing, I asked the owner about it. “Ummm, when I purchased the car 8 years ago, it had disintegrated past the point of repair, so I tossed it and never bothered finding a replacement.” I’ve been to many parts places online, and of course local auto supply stores as well, but to no avail.

What I need is the part(s) circled in red. (thanks to ghettocruiser for the image from another post)



I thought, instead of obtaining an original, why not just create one myself? I'm sure a heating & cooling/hardware store would carry the proper hardware required to reproduce this piece.

I have a few questions:

1. What type of material of hose/piping/tube can I use that will withstand the extreme heat from the engine and be safe?

2. Any ideas on what I can use for the scoop area that bolts next to the radiator? It resembles a shop vac attachment.

Any ideas, opinions, or knowledge are greatly welcome!

 

Most guys use that metallic dryer duct for that... those should be plentiful at the wrecker, why not just pick on up there?

 

Thats the funny thing, I have never ever seen an air cleaner in yards I have been at, no idea why.


Also Why not just switch to an open element? Non-drop base that is.

 

Because the engine will be be eating 100% underhood air (hot air = less oxygen) and at inspection time, regardless of emissions test or not, your car would no longer be legal & should fail (if the Inspector does his job right).

 

Yea that is true, It was really hot under the hood when I had my stock hood.

 

i have both pieces laying around in my garage. pm me if youd be interested in buying them. they are in great shape. took it off a motor with less than 100k.
