http://www.eharwood.com/

http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/site.htm

There's a few more but those are your best choices for fiberglass hoods.

thanks for the links man this is exactly what I have been looking for... do you know by any chance if they will be a direct fit or will it need modification

Any fiberglass hood will/may require some fitting and finishing before paint, nothing major if its a quality part.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

Bolt ones are normally a direct fit.

Lift offs require using hood pins or Dzus fasteners to hold the hood down since it's not designed or strong enough to use hinges and lift shocks.

All fiberglass parts normally require some sort of fine tune finishing for a perfect fit.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

most functional cowl hoods are just open on the bottom side of the hood where the cowl is, so you can put an aftermarket open air element so you can utilize the air getting sucked in from the windshield, if you have a TPI I don't think you want a cowl hood but rather a "SS" style hood that draws the air in from the front.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

I have a TPI and a 4in cowl...I have to have hood pins on the front. ..if not it lifts...and even tho its not bring in fresh air to the engine. ...it dose let out a lot of heat...

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

I see cowl hoods on craigslist all the time for third gens, if you buy one used you will get the not new discount, plus you will know it will bolt rite on if he had it on his camaro so price wise and what not i think they are around $300 ish maybe less.
Thats for like a 4in and under cowl hood by the way, oh and I have never seen a non functioning cowl hood for sale so most not make to many of them i guess.

EDIT: apperently cowl hoods are around $200 so even better lol i havent looked in awhile but i knew it wasnt more then $300

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

I paid $100 bucks for my fiberglass cowl hood off of craigslist. granted I had to drive 3 hours in to the ghetto of K.C. to get it but it was well worth it.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

At speed its not going to let out any heat, its going to let air in and pressurize the engine bay, causing lift.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

I think you might be right about at speed...but when I come to a light. ..I can see the heat coming out of the cowl...it was on the car when I bought it.....when I was at a carshow..someone took my pins...so I started to take them out when I was going to shows...and keep extra pins in the center console. ..but that one drive,,, I thought my hood was going to fly away...

Best example i know of for this is when i got my 69 camaro, it has the Z28/COPO 2"cowl but none of the stuff to seal the air cleaner to the hood(ZL2 package i believe). When i washed it for the first time and took off down the highway, when the water droplets reached the back of the cowl they would shoot forward into the cowl. Any and all questions i ever had about how a cowl hood works were answered that day.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

Sounds almost as if you want something like the grill shutters I am putting on my suburban.
You could let the heat out of a cowl induction hood at low speed or shut off the air flow so it does not put air under your car at higher speeds.

Lol are you mounting the raidiator in front of the shutters? Also that looks pretty badass do they shut with a switch or do you pull some wire that runs all the way into your cab lol?

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

The radiator will be behind the shutters. The oil cooler I added after this picture was taken is in front of the shutters. But the oil cooler has a bypass.
Problem with new mexico is no one told me during winter it gets down to 0'F before I moved here and it does so more often than you would think. I figured it would never drop below 20'F, boy was I wrong.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

Oil pan 4, I noticed your suburban is a diesel. the shutters are an awesome idea to help your diesel warm up and produce some heat for your cold day driving. Looks a lot better that the ol' cardboard most people use. But i can't see how it would benefit the OP. What your doing with the shutters, antifreeze and a thermostat takes care of in our cars. The shutters in the situation at hand would only block air from cooling the radiator (what your using it for) but would not change the air coming in the cowl and pressurizing the engine bay.

Re: is there a functional cowl hood for a Camaro?

I was saying that cowl induction hood guys could use grill shutters mounted horizontally under the cowl to let the heat rise out through the hood at low speed and close the shutters at high speed to prevent air from going in through the cowl.
A Camaro does not need hidden recessed radiator blocking shutters like I am doing for the suburban.

As far as applying grill shutters like this to making functional hood louvers, I got nothing.
