Rust issue

I own a 84 camaro that I am restoring and discover today my floor pan needs replaced but then I noticed the rust was spread out and as I chiseled the rust it got closer and closer to what appears to be part of the frame of the shell and then the worst happened it was spread to the frame (I've included pictures). The rust is on the far left tords the front of the floor. Long story short is it repairable and is it worth it

Re: Rust issue

Michigan would qualify. I expect if you start looking you'll find a lot more of that type of cancer rust in that car. It probably spent it's life with salty wet Michigan road slush coating the underside. That being said...Anything can be fixed if you want to put in the hours and $$$. How good are you with sheet metal and a welder? Personally, I'd just look for a car with a good body and use the rusty one for parts.

A truck with a rental trailer and a road trip down south to find a rust free car is probably always gonna be cheaper than trying to fix one that has spent it's life in the rust belt states.

Re: Rust issue

I think this the only bad spot underneath I pretty much did a quick inspection. This car is already missing parts so not worth buying another one just to have to search for even more parts

Re: Rust issue

Check for little holes behind your front tires, it rots there and they can be hard to find. Sometimes just behind your plastic inner fender

Re: Rust issue

Dude, rust "issue" ?! Haha.

I had a 1960 El Camino SS that had floors like that. Even being as collectable as that was, I still sold it rather than get into that mess.

Re: Rust issue

Three questions:

Can u do the work yourself or with friends?

Can you afford to do it properly the first time?

Does the car mean something to you?

If the answer is yes, shut up, do it and post pics.

Everyone always has a different answer to a problem, you need to figure out what you want to do.

I cut the firewall open and rebuilt half my cowl on my 91 Formula because it was "my" car and I could do it with my friends, it will be near undetectable when it gets done. We elected to do the cowl/firewall first so we added strength for when we cut the drivers floorpan for rust repair replacement

Only thing I will say, know your limits and be honest about it, if you click the link to my post, 3 of us did the firewall/cowl in roughly 2 10-12 hour days.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/nw-i...1-formula.html

Do not however, listen to naysayers that it cannot be done or that it cannot be done properly.
