STOCK Shift light???

I have a 88 GTA with the digital dash, its automatic, I was looking at the dash the other day and noticed on the left hand side of the steering wheel theres a lil idiot light I never seen lit, so angling light to it, I believe it said shift, is that a stock shift light? If it is any way to hook it up for my auto?

It's a standard feature for the manual trans cars. It was there so the computer could "attempt" to aid you getting better gas milage. As far as I know there is no way to hook it up for the auto but you never know. You could probably hook it up to shift at certain points but you'll have to tap into the harness somewhere.

I've heard that if you plug in a bulb, it'll light up when the torque converter is locked.

That's funny. There's no socket to plug a bulb into (at least not on my car).

You could probably hook up a light using an MSD RPM switch box (I forget what MSD calles it), but this seems a bit much to me.

Most people think that the light is an annoying thing because when it lights up at part throttle at different RPM's. It's pretty annoying for sure when driving in the city because of its erratic operation but at the track with WOT its extremely handy. I think most people just pull the bulbs, since most of the manual cars I've been in the shift light doesn't light up.
