Few of any of the thirdgens are rare. Basically Turbo TA's, Heritage Edition Camaros, and Firehawks and 1LE cars are the rare ones. When you start getting into the B4C cars and so fourth they are harder to come buy but not actually "rare".

Player's Challenge Race built thirdgen's have those RPO's. I believe A4U was prior 1LE and R7U was 1LE equipped thirdgens.

I have an 87 Formula exactly like that, 5.0TPI, 5 Speed, T-tops, But mine is yellow, I have not seen another yellow Formula with that combination. The closest I have seen or heard of is 2 Yellow Formulas with 5 Speeds and hard top.

As far as being "rare" I would venture to say that the 5 Speed 305TPI option is definately more unusual than any other COMMON engine combination The Exceptions would be the afore mentioned TTA's 1LE's, B4C's the Firehawks,

Heritage editions were a striping option in my opinion.

As for the Formula, All Formulas in 87 Came with the Aero Wing, the Flat style "Snowflake" 16" Wheels, and the "Power Buldge" Hood. IF you contribue that the Wheels were an 87 ONLY thing on the Formulas then that makes your car a little more unusual. But nothing significant. 13,000+ Formulas were made in 87.

Your codes will be located in your center console on the right side in the compartment.

A while back I did some MATH, and I came up with some interesting numbers, the numbers are close to some other sources I have seen, They might not be perfect, but it might give you an idea.

How many 87 Formulas had certain engines
We know that ONLY the Firebird came with a V6, (Formula, TA & GTA did not have this engine option) So we can eliminate 34,914 Firebirds having a V8, leaving 7638 Firebirds with the LG4 (The base firebird was not available with TPI)
That leaves 18322 Formulas and T/A's with the LG4
According to http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/D...POFigures.html The T/A & GTA's combined had the following production: 12,402 5.0L (LB9) and 7818 5.7L (L98)'s That leaves:
5667 Formulas had the 5.0 (LG4) 4bbl
3931 Formulas had the 5.0 (LB9) TPI
3562 Formulas had the 5.7 (L98) TPI

12655 T/A's with the LG4
9124 T/A's with TPI 305 or 350

Transmissions:

Since the M5 was not available with the 350, that leaves 65,871 Automatics for the lesser engines. Again according to http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/D...POFigures.html there were 27,007 Automatics between the GTAs & T/As, that leaves a total of 50244 Automatics for the Firebird and Formula. 5868 GTAs & T/As with a Manual Transmissions, That leaves 5468 Manual Transmissions for the Formula & Firebird.

then it is probably missing,

YOU MIGHT be able to get some information from PHS (pontiac Historical Services) They can sometimes get that information for you, ALSO try a dealer, with your VIN I hear that sometimes they can print you out a new RPO Sheet.
