What GMs share 3rd gen parts? (Besides motor)
I was at the junk yard yesterday, wait... it's 1:30 in the morning, the day before yesterday and I (for whatever reason) looked in a mid-eighties Cadillac Cimmaron (Chevy Cavalier).
I noticed that the door lock switches were the same as the Camaro ones! They were mint too, so I yoinked them.
That leads to my question, what other GM (or non-gm too???) vehicles share the same parts as 3rd gens? Besides driveline of course.
This could help people out finding parts, as I know power door lock switches are always worn in 3rd gens at the parts yard!

Lots of GM cars from the 80's used the same exterior door handles and the plastc piece for manually locking the door. N-bodies (Grand Am, etc) had the same interior door handles from 85-91. J-body front seats may fit? G body side mirrors look close, maybe? Practically all steering wheels are interchangeable.

switches. door handles, basicly everything but the door panel its self..... matter of fact, my moms fiero has a camaro door handle (inside) in it when hers broke....
the entire steering column, as long as the options are the same.... the case/collar its self interchanges though.
in the yards, i like to yank trim screws, relays, wiring plugs, door lock silinoids, switches, ect from other cars.... basicly, if its GM and looks the same, it probly is... not always, they always do have minor revisions, but its not like its costly.... i show the guy all the screws and stuff and he usually jsut lets me have it for free... i think the most hes ever asked for that is when i got like 20 relays (relays are fun) and plugs from some cars.... the only thing he asked was for a dollar... and i watched him put it in the vending machine, lol.... feels better telling them about it then stealing it too

It's good to cross reference. I got my door lock motors from a NEW Chevy Astro van, door lock switches from an old Cavalier, power mirror motors from a Fiero, etc.
Try www.ACDelco.com. They have a vehicle cross reference tool. As long as you know the GM part number, you can check how many GM vehicles use that part. Then just search for those vehicles in the junkyard too!

I think the Mech for the headlights on Firebirds is the same as a Reatta, Good luck finding one of those in a junkyard.

Kind of, Oddly enough it was built on a shortened Riviera Platform, The Converts from the last few years are cool looking IMO but there are very few of those around, I think less than 5K combined.

i was pricing rotors for my 88 chevy s10 pickup 2wd. same as the rotors for both of my 84 camaros. or any 82-92 non 1LE camaro or firebird.
the bucket seats in the same s10 pickup look just like the standard high-back bucket seats in a camaro.. they just have a different fabric pattern.
i had an 86 cavalier for my first car. again, the buckets were the same as the camaro seats with the adjustable headrest, but different fabric.
it would be interesting if we could compile a list of the different parts that were interchangeable...

go to a junkyard, I think many of them have books where they can cross reference, not sure about interior pieces, but there are some books out there like that.

Sunbird seats are the same seats in the base firebird. Lots of cars got similar seats as the base Camaro, besides the ones above, the Chevette & Monza had similar seats. the Olds Cutlass Calais had the Custom Cloth style seats in leather.
The ECM from 2.8/3.1L Cavy's(Sunbird), Corsica's (Tempest), Beretta's & Celebrity's are the same used in the 2.8/3.1 & TBI F-Bodies (the PROM is different tho)

1984-1996 Corvette wiper motors are the same as 84-87 Camaro (possibly other year Camaro's, and maybe Firebirds too)

Tony,
Do those seats have the lumbar and bolster support? They look exactly like the Ultima seats AKA GTA seats.

Wish I could get a nice, more comfortable set of seats for my car from a junkyard... but I have been cursed with this lovely option package
729 : SEAT BELT COLOR, DK CARMINE (9) (91)
72B : TRIM COMBINATION, CLOTH, DK CARMINE (B)
72I : INTERIOR TRIM, DK CARMINE (91)
72W : TRIM COMBINATION, VINYL, DK CARMINE (W)

Could always look in the junkyards for a different color interior... Any firebird or Camaro should work 82-92 for sure... I would however recommend new carpet over used tho
Black seems to be the color of choice for thirdgenners....

I was thinking about black... as my last Camaro (84 Z28) was red outside and black inside... but my car scheme is black exterior with red accents (decals, emblems, brake calipers, engine parts, etc.)
Maybe I could put black seats in and keep the carpet, door panels, interior trim, and headliner? That's an idea! I already changed the red arm rests to black... that was a little too much red for me!

Junkyards,or now as they like salvage or auto reconditioning yards....lol,use the Hollander interchange manuals. They show all the parts that interchange between models. Also some salvage yards that have websites that use a common search engine. Some of these are yard specific others you can search nationwide.Ive used one at http://www.gaineyautoparts.com/inventory.htm .it's cool to just sit and play with too.
Mrdude sounds like you've been dealing with Jack.If so he's really cool and has been in business for many years.

Like most 80's Pontiacs, the Fiero has lots of Firebird ***** and switches and handles. I believe the headlight motors are the same too...

I had 2 neighbors when I lived in Flint, one had a 91 Camaro, the other had a mid 90's GMC Sonoma, I could have sworn those rims were the same, but with different center caps.
