It doesn't "mean" anything. It's random. Just a designation.

GM has used letters like that to designate their various platforms for many many years, since the 60s actually, when they started having different chassis. The Chevelle/LeMans was the A; Caprice/Impala/Catalina/88/LeSabre was B; the Bonneville/98/Electra/SDV was C; the Fleetwood was D; the Riviera/Toronado was E; Camaro/Firebird was F; Monte Carlo/Cutlass/GrandPrix/Century was G; Nova and its sisters in the other divisions was X; Vette was Y. A whole bunch of the nameless faceless generic FWD look-alike sedans are W.

I am sitting here with the "Camaro" By Anthony Young that states that GM's Fisher Body Division would play a cricial role in this respect during the Chassis & body Engineering.

But I will see what Settlemire has to say when He gets back to me.

Haven't you ever seen a "Body By Fisher" emblem on the sill plate of other GM cars; ie Cadillac, Buick, Olds, etc? Of course they would play a cricial role, they were the ones that would be making the body and chassis.

Ok I was wrong.
Heres what I got from Settlemire:

Each car line within GM was assigned a letter..........going back to the 80s.....

A Body.....Malibu/Chevelle
A Special........Monte
B body Caprice/Impala/Bel Air/Biscayne
C body DeVille, Electra, 98
F body Camaro/Firebird
Y body Corvette
H body FWD Bonneville/88/LeSabre -- also before FWD, it was the Monza series J body Cavalier/Sunfire T body Chevette (remember those??)

and so on............................................................

They used single letters as manufacturing references; so when they associated parts in the manufacturing process they could just refer to them by "F" instead of saying Camaro.

Jeep did the same thing with your Wrangler, it was designated as the TJ, the Liberty KJ, the Grand Cherokee WJ....

going back to the 80s
It goes back to the 60s, like I posted.

Notice those are the same car lines and models I posted. Except that the MC became a G body, starting in 73 along with the Cutlass, Grand Prix, and Century. See for example from people who might know about such things http://www.g-body.org/ Plus of course there were a whole lot more car lines, with their own letter designations, like I posted.

Glad to know I haven't been misinformed all these years about all those car lines. At least not about that, anyway.

Re: what does F, in Fbody mean??

F-Body is just a letter designation that Fisher Body division of GM assigned to Camaros and Firebirds. GTOs and Chevelles were A, Grand Prix is G, etc.
The F-body era began it's first generation in 1967, and ended with the fourth generation in 2002.
