How Many '92 Formulas

Anyone know how many Formulas were made in '92? I saw two charts online that seem to indicate that the number is 508, but that seems way too low to me.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply. I looked and found the chart you were talking about.

I've never owned a rare car before...does 1,017 made constitute rare?

Either way, I am psyched to have a Formula!!

This car does not have any of the graphics applied, and I am debating whether to put them on.

The one company I found online (Phoenix Graphics?) didn't show any for the '91-'92 Formulas that said "Formula 350"...did the 350 cars really come with those?

Try giving classic industries a call. Their website is www.classicindustries.com. When I was restoring my 85 TA I was having a tough time finding matching interior components and certain emblems and they pointed me to all the right places. I ended up getting everything from them and every part matched perfectly. Plus every once in a while they have a 20% off sale, I tend to hand a lot of money over to them during those .

Didn't the later Formulas come with just the "FORMULA" callout on the door, and the engine callout in small type on the side of the hood bulge...? Or did I just dream this up?

91-92 Formula door decals only said "Formula" whether it was a 305 or 350 car.
The only decals that told of anything were the "hood call-outs" They either said 5.0 Liter F.I. or 5.7. But from what I understand there is no rule as to what cars got the hood call-outs and which didn't.

I 2 '91's and both the 305 and 350 came with Formula on the lower door from factory, even after I had the 350 repainted I put it back just like factory with the decals, no need to brag about cu's. Andy

well i happen to like the decals, and i consider myself some one with above average knowlege on these cars. my car just says FORMULA and to me this means 305... so if i see FORMULA 350 Ill know what that car is capable of So i dont really see that as bragging, just shows the car has some pretty good options...

actually one good option. The Formula 350 came with nothing more than the B2L engine package, all other options were available with the 305's that you could get with a 350.

The problem I see with advertising what engine you have is you lost all elements of surprise. .

I like the Formula 350 logo, don't get me wrong. But when I go to a 350, 383, 400 or 427 I will more than likely not advertise it.

thats a good point. but i thought street racing was illegal in my case i wouldnt mind having it out in the open, i mostly cruise my bird as it is and only peel out when im feelin groovy. As for the decals indicating options the 350 to me is "some good options" lol because thats all i wish my car had from the factory, but chances are that if a car was optioned with the 350 it probably has other options too.

92 Formula

Is there any way to tell how many formula were made with the 305 or the 350. I have a 92 formula 350 auto with 97,000 miles and it still has the facory radiator hoses and clamps on it.

If you have all of the 92 VIN's you just do a search for 8 and F as the engine digit and then you know

The Firebird got the V6 & the V8 - LO3
The FORMULA got the LO3 standard, and the LB9 or L98 optional
The Trans Am got the LB9 Standard and the L98 optional
The GTA got the L98 Standard and the LB9 was a credit option.

BTW, the rest of the Formulas would have the LO3...

I got them from Alex "92GTA"

THAT takes a little math...

Year
1989

64,404 Total Units

Model Units
Y81 - Firebird - 32,376
W66 - FORMULA - 16,670
Y83 - T/A - 5,727
Y84 - GTA - 9,631

Trans Units
MX0 - Automatic -55,297
MM5 - Manual - 9,107

Engine Units
LB8 - V6 - 24,968
L03 - V8 305 - 18,362
LB9 - V8 305 TPI - 6,478
L98 - V8 350 TPI - 13,041
LC2 - Turbo Buick 231 V6 - 1,550

This is what we know-
The firebird only got the V6 or the LO3 engine
THe FORMULA and TRANS AM could get the LO3, LB9 or L98
The GTA only got an L98 or the LB9

According to http://www.gtasourcepage.com/89RPOFigures.html Thanks Frankie, there were for the GTA:
LC2 GTA's (TTA) - 1,550
L98 GTA's - 6,554
LB9 GTA's - 366

THerefore:
L98 Trans AM's or Formulas - 6,487
LB9 Trans AM's or Formulas - 6,112
LO3 Trans AM's or Formulas - 10,954

The Firebird got only the LB8, or the LO3

LO3 Firebirds - 7,408
LB8 Firebirds - 24,968

Thanks John. Too bad GM does not have an accurate number. Of the TransAm/Formula L98 cars, what do you think the distributuion ratio is? I would think that most of those 6,xxx cars were T/A's.

okfoz - quick question...

LC2 GTA's (TTA) - 1,550
L98 GTA's - 6,554
LB9 GTA's - 366

Total #: 8470.... but total Y84 optioned is 9,631

So what did the other 1,100 some GTAs get for engines?

If you look at his site it has the 8470 figure. I trust his numbers because he had a good source. It may be the difference between US shipments and total produced cars.

Since I did notice that I guess that would throw off all my numbers

I guess only Frankie could answer that one.

According to the site, 952 Canadian... so that means the rest are European export? Makes sense
