my 88 iroc is metallic grey. i have never seen another one except in pics. it also has origanal 15in wheels

 

8,628 were painted meduim grey (87).
I also estimate about 3000 IROCs were TBI,
like yours. Rare yes....valuable no

well mine is tpi. i was just wondering cause out of all the irocs i never ever see grey, and i know its the origanal color.

 

Yes, grey IROCs look sharp, I've only seen
3 myself. Are you sure those 15" Z28 wheels
are orginal equipment with that car?

I know they came std on the IROCs but I thought (I'm quite sure) that if you ordered
the optional TPI the upgraded 16" were
mandatory.

Anybody back me up on this?+

hmm well i dont know about the 16 when you have the tpi. but i do know that there is a rpo code in my box that is like QYZ and it says 15inch wheels. do you know the rpo to tell if the car is an original tpi? someone could of always added a tpi unit.

 

You can just run your vin to see what the original engine was.

Very interesting...RPO for 305 TPI is LB9
and TBI 305 is LO3.

I know in '89 you could get TPI with
the new for '89 15" IROC wheels.

I bought my IROC new in 89 with TPI and it had 15 inch IROC rims. The 16s look worlds better though, I just put em on!

My '89 RS is grey, and the grey is by far my favorite third gen color. Too bad they canceled grey IROCs for '89....it'd be neat to have matching '89s

the original engine is the LB9. it says it in my consol box. i hate the 15 inch wheels though, everybody and there brother tells me irocs never came with those wheels, or isnt that just an rs with iroc decals? and iroc wheels are way too rare and expensive around here.

 

are those 15in.wheels iroc style rims,do they look the same as 16s but 1in smaller?or do they look like the standard Z28 grey wheels?are they listed as 15 in.iroc rims.

Wow! An 88 IROC with LB9 and 15" Z28 wheels.
Didn't think that was possible but if all the RPOs say so.....People don't often know the
std wheels for an 88 IROC were the 15" Z28
wheels, 16" IROC were optional and almost all IROCs had them, save a few. It was 89 the 15"
IROC wheels were std equipment (and new for that year)

My 88 IROC has the 15" Z28 wheels but I ditched them for 82 Z wheels which I painted
silver, looks much better then the crappy grey. And 15" tires are so cheap.....
BTW zee28, it's Zed 28!! hahah

wow! i guess it must be rare. i never have heard you cant get 15in wheels and tpi. i swear its in the RPO. the wheels are the 15 inch z28 grey wheels, not the 15inch iroc but i wish they where 15in iroc style. hmm that is so weird. i wonder if anyone else has a car like mine? so you guys are sure you could not get a TBI LB9? because if you could and old owner could of always put TPI on it.

 

O.K. People here we go. 1988 Chevrolet introduced two new colors for the IROC. Med. Gray Met.(87U) and Med. Orange Met. (63U). They were exclusive to the 1988 model year and not carried over because they did not meet a percentage of total production (3 to 5%). The wheels for '88, there were three types you could get on an IROC. One; the 15x7 wheel (RPO N90) found on '82 to '87 Z28's. This was the wheel found on the L03 TBI cars. Two; the 15x7 wheel that looks just like the 16x8 wheel (RPO PF2). This wheel was found on the TPI 305 cars as standard equipment. Three; the 16x8 wheel (RPO N96) standard on TPI 350 and optional on TPI 305 cars. Chevrolet started monkeying around with options and grouped them, thats why the IROC became a separate model and not an option anymore. Incidently the PF2 wheel is used on 1988-1990 IROCS.

David M. I gotta disagree with you about the
3 wheels styles for 88 IROCs. There were only 2. The 15" Z28 wheel and the 16" Irocs.

The 15" IROC did not debut until 89.

Response to 871LEIROC. I got my info from the '88 brochure showing a red IROC with the 15x7 (N90) five spoke wheels on the cover. Also on pages 12&13 there is a white IROC with the same wheels.

 

David, your missing my point. The N90-15X7
Z28 wheels were std equipment on 88 IROCs.
I never said ther weren't.I have an 88 IROC with those wheels and have seen a 88 brochure on IROC-Z.com (2 wheels in
88).

What i said was-

PF2 : WHEEL, 15 X 7, ALUMINUM
QYZ : TIRE ALL, P215/65R15/N BL R/PE ST TL HWY
