What do you guys think? Legit or not? I didn't think that you could get a 1LE with t-tops, let alone a convertable. The guy also said it was a 350, then later said it was a typo that it's actually a 305. I have a feeling he changed it because enough people know about the lack of 350s (be it a 5 speed or auto) so he got some mail.

Hmm. That car has air too. I didn't think the 1LEs came with air!?

Jim,
I have an e-mail out to the owner which contains some very probing questions. To the best of my knowledge, no convertible 1LE's were produced in any year (third gen). Let's wait and see what the owner has to say.

That guy's full of ****. Air conditioning and a convertible one a 1LE? Whatever. Wasn't the discouraging part of getting a 1LE was not having air or power options? Let alone a convertible, which by the way weren't an option on '88's. That guy's trying to scam people.

I e-mailed him a listing of specific RPO codes for him to check. He didn't even know where they are located. So I told him to check inside the center console compartment and e-mail me back with results. My plan is to expose the truth about this car.... won't be the first "rare" Camaro I've exposed and probably not the last (unfortunately)!!

one thing that i noticed was how the add was worded. It sounded too much like a car salesman. i have never sold a car with an add like that. and for some reason that shifter looks awfully high too me i have driven a six cylinder five speed and the stick didnt sit anywhere near that high. my call is its fake and i dont know that much about 1LEs and since when was the there a 1LE specific engine other than being a 305 i thought 1LEs were all suspension and braking.TINFY

Over 24 hours and I have not received a response. I betcha this guy's realized what his car really is. Unfortunately, someone will believe his story and buy the car for what it's not.

Hehe...I just mailed the shmuck this:
Hi,
I am interested in your car, and wanted to receive a little more information about the car.
I was under the impression that convertibles were not available with the 1LE option, as 1LE was designed for racing. Also, I was told 1LEs did not have all the power options this car features, because the added weight would slow the car down on the racetrack. Regardless, I am interested in knowing more about the car. Please email me with information about the 1LE option package to clear up any misunderstandings. Thanks!!
Jason
Let's see if I get an answer...unfortunately, someone has bid on the car for the $8,000 starting bid. Hope they know it isn't a 1LE. I gotta admit though, the car looks beautiful, and around here it would get at least $6,000 anyways!

ya,... that car is nice regardless of what the guy says it really is but not worth 8,000. We should get the bid up to 40,000 and then tell him he falsely advertised so we don't have to pay.

if you look in his little pic of that REAL 1LE the motor has no AC compersor and thats the way it should be My car a B4C is the ONLY WAY you can get the HD front brakes and AC togeter and as for this convertable THERE ARE NO CONVERTABLE 1LEs this guy is so full of $hit Now even after all this if you dont beleave me think of it this way if you had a Real 1 out of 4 1LEs and could prove it would you even put 86,000 miles on it he!! no and If I did have one of those super super rare early 1LEs I wouldnt sell it on ebay I would deffenatly put it up on one of those big auction houses in new york
this guy is a fake OR a compleat dumba$$ I am leaning too the FAKE side my self!!!

I just received two e-mails back from the guy who posted the car on e-bay. Apparently, he's doing this for a friend of his. Here are his e-mails:
The owner finally got back today. He had been told by two different Chevy dealerships locally that this car a 1LE. That code is not on the panel. I have attached pics of the RPO codes for you. He's asking $12,500 for the car. The opening bid is $8,000. If you are still interested let me know. I have several people who saw it listed that are wanting to make a cash offer on it as is.
Regards,
Chris
and
If I have mis-represented the car, it was unintentional. I was simply going by what the owner had in front of me and what he had been told about the car. He does not have the original window sticker.
Chris
I examined the RPO codes and this car is fully loaded, but as suspected, it is NOT a 1LE. So there you have it....another "rare" car bites the dust.
