price for an 85' Z
price for an 85' Z
ok, i found this beatiful looking 85' Z and it only has 42,000 original miles on it. how much to you guys think something like that is worth? the blue book value is rediculously low (like 3,000) and my friend bought one pretty much identical to with 45,000 miles on it for 5,000 (i think thats a pretty good deal) anyways the guy wanted 6,500 for it and i got him down to 6,000. what do you guys think? i still kind of think the price is a little steep.

That price isn't too far off. If the car was absolutely flawless, I would pay it. If you consider that a pretty good 100-150,000 mile 85' would go for around $3000, it would cost at least 3000 for a new motor, paint, tranny, whatever else to make it in the same condition as the 42,000 mile one. That's not includeing the man hours to do the work. If you want something that will take a minimal amount of work and be in almost new condition, then that's the way to go.

What motor? If it's got an LG4, I'd pass regardless of the price. If it's a TPI motor, and with that milage, I'd say $5,500-6k would be a good price. I'd imagine he won't have a hard time selling it for $6k though, so if you want it, I'd pay the man the money.

I would definitely pay that for it, and keep it original and nice. Just my .02...with all the hopped up ones out there, its refreshing to see a clean, original example, especially a first-year TPI.
If you do decide to put the 383 in it, keep all the original parts with it (obviouisly)...again, just my .02.

What the hell then...go for it! Just don't cut the body up, or tack on a cheezy hood or add 4th gen crap to it. Keep it looking stock and make it go like hell

I recently bought my second Camaro about five months ago. Anyways 85Z28 LB9TPI had 86,000 miles on it. Great body and int. Seats were in great shape T-top's in good cond. so forth. $800 good deal I think. Yes it needs a paint job and some other TLC. But it was a great price. I like to work on my cars slowly and use them as daily drivers.
It seems that Camaro's cost more in some parts of the US than others? If the car was in great cond. I'd do it. I mean what do expect the car will only be 17years old.
