What is the VIN for this car?Mainly the tenth digit for the year.
A '87 wouldn't have FP87 for the model designation.It would be FP21.
The e is the year for '85.
The 098 is the build month and week 09 is September and are you sure that may be a B instead of a 8.B would indicate 2nd week.
The 75L and 75U are exterior color codes and 75 is the code for red but in '85.
Could the 17B be a 19B.Is the interior black cloth?
The AR9 is for the reclining front seats.

I hope this helps.

1FP87 on the cowl tag denotes the model, not part of the VIN. All 3rd and 4th gens vehicles have a model code of 1FP87. In 1989, GM changed the 1FP87 to 1FP67 for convertibles. Until 1989, even the convertibles were using 1FP87 since the car was still built using the same model line and was converted after manufacture. Based on the VIN, the car is a V6 sport coupe built at Van Nuys plant in 1987. Based on the trim tag, it was built the second week of September (09B) The "e" at the top denotes a 1985 model year. The 256144 designates the sequential build number. This has nothing to do with the VIN. 75L and 75U denote Bright Red lower and upper body color on an 85, not an 87. In 1987, the color number is 81. I agree that the next should be a 19B. No 17B for 85 or 87. The AR9 is standard seats and the bottom row is plant batch code.

Just an FYI, the car is a Camaro, not a camero. The correct spelling is all over these forums!

Thank you Scott I've learned another new item. They kept the FP87 designation even with the model designation changed in the VIN?
It sounds like someone may have changed the radiator support posibly due to front end damage. And now your car has the cowl tag that was on the replacement part.By your VIN she is a '87(tenth digit - H) that came with the 2.8 V6(eighth digit - S).On the SPID sticker in the glovebox it would have seemed more sensible to have attached it to a more permanent part of the car(ie: the console base to me would have been a better choice).Your'e right that the VIN on the sticker denotes a '84 with the 2.8 V6.As for the interior it most probably was originally grey(if everything matches).

thanks and yes i spelled it wrong . sorry . The front support has no welds or nothing that would say it was ever changed over . but there were 2 sets of rpo codes and the ones in the center console . not on the lid said it was a 2.8 . on vin liberty it said the 8th digit a s would mean a 305. maybe that sights wrong . does any on no a good trim tag decoder website for f-bodys ?.
what still has me stumped is the trim tag reads its red . and under the paint it is red and is suppost to be black??? can anyone do a fast carfax on it for me as a big favor.

This site has a RPO decoder that you have to down load.If you go to http://www.camarosource.ca they have a good VIN and RPO decoder. Also take into account that you may have codes that not all sites recognize and not all sites agree on what each code is.The only year that I know of the eighth digit "S" indicated a 305 was '83.Then it was the LU5 CFI 305(my '83 has this).Otherwise every other year "S" has indicated the 2.8 V6(LQ9 or LB8 for the one in your '87 if it has MFI).
I'm sorry I don't have a current Carfax account to help you out.Someone else may have one.
