what is a 68,000 mile indy pace car edition worth 82 z28. interior needs redone but I would probably replace it before it would go up for sale. all the rest is nearly mint. and I think all the extra decals and everything are there.

That's a tough question there certainly are pace car collectors out there but not really a car everyone dreams of owning. IF you want to sell it I would put it on ebay with reserve a few grand over what you would expect out of it and if the highest bidder is in the price you want sell it to them. If you don't have to get rid of it I would just store it until third gens become the next big dollar musclecar which I'm not seeing to far in the future. 70's trans-ams and corvettes didn't start to go up in price until a few years ago and the 80's cars are not far behind, I think anyway. Rare car anyhow with low miles you have something that not to many people have so the price for it could go anywhere.
i'm interested as well.. i can't stand the cars and while it's a personal opinion it seems that it's a model style that the thridgens are known for most which is represented best in everything from books and video covers to jewelry and small matchbox cars.
Again, the value is based solely on location and condition of the car. Based on mileage and stated condition, my guess would be about $2500 on the high side. Reason being, you're idea of nearly mint is probably not the same as mine, especially when the interior is trashed. It probably requires some paint, suspension, maintenance and plenty of small items. A completely mint car requiring nothing can be bought for $10k - $12k. Ask me how I know!
I saw one a few years back with trees growing up around it so tightly you couldn't get the doors open, and the debris was so thick on top of it you couldn't tell what color it was. The body was so rusty the decals were suspended in air over the rust holes. That car was worth less then zero.
Two or three others in the SF area were so rough they wouldn't stand up to any scrutiny. They wouldn't really be worth any more then a normal 82-84 Z28.
I've yet to see a really nice one bring a premium price. If the interior is rough (it's one of the few pace car specific attributes) I'd say the premium for being a pace car just evaporated. Subtract for any rust whatsoever, subtract for any missing pace car specific parts, subtract for any other wear/tear...
If you want an expert value estimation, get the car appraised and be prepared to have it listed for a long time before a buyer comes along willing to pay a premium for it. Otherwise, price it accordingly as a 82 Z28 and tack on a $500 premium for being a pace car and hopefully it'll sell quickly to someone who will appreciate it.
Also, the people that will find the pace car aspect attractive, are either going to be enthusiasts/collectors looking for a near perfect example, or yahoo's looking for something unique. Neither is an easy market to deal with.

There looks to be a mint one where I live for sale. I can never check the car because I just see it driving on the opposite side of the highway on a regular basis. I will have to track it down one day and see what he is asking, the exterior is mint but who knows and I would love to have one.

According to NADA they state the Pace car is worth 6,600 - 14,000... Of course they refer to the Mallet Corvette... hmmm....

theres a blue and gray two tone 82 83 84 camaro pace care right down the street a few blocks away that a kid drives its nice no rust or anything and has all the pace car info on the doors still and all, being not rusted is unbelievable around here, it is so old yet no rust, i cant believe it, i should snap a couple pics one of these days, it came out of no where, i assume he bought it from down south somewhere and drove it up to here, or someone kept it in a garage for a long time, one or the other..
never sene oen til this one came from the woodwork,
the bad thing is that he has been driving it around in all the bad weather and its starting ot get crap built up in and on the rear quarters, i dont see it being rust free for very long unforunately
most ppl dont care and so they go donwhill in condition real quick
then its too late
good luck

Although it really depends on how you classify "Collector" THere are several types of collector car purchasers out there 1) people out there who see a car for its potential, and never do anything with it. 2) people who see potential and get er done, 3) those who see potential get half way and crap out. 4) those who want it done before they even consider a purchase. Obviously there are more scenarios but Iwont go into those.

Too bad I'll probably never see one that nice in person.
