Where are the Weird/Cool model Camaros!?!?!

I've seen all of these cool Fire Chicken versions. Trojan, Notchback, SLP FireHawk, Bandit Edition, And others.

Didn't Chevrolet Get with anyone to do this kind of stuff. The only one I know about is the possible 3 that are out there that are heritage edition cars with LT1s and 6Spds.

Wasn't there any cool Camaros that you could buy?

Chevrolet did it in the late 60s with Yenko. What Happend?

I probably just don't know about them because they are REALLY Rare, and never seen.

Good point, never thought of that. I disagree though on no cool Camaros - I see plenty in this forum.

Re: Where are the Weird/Cool model Camaros!?!?!

Joel Rosen of Motion Performance created a few IROC-Z cars with wide body kits, but they aren't anything as each car was built to the customers' specs, not his. There were only a few made though. Also, the Tojan was made on both Firebird and Camaro platforms. There were others, but I'm drawing a blank on the names.

I completely agree with you on this. All of the Camaros on this forum and Firebirds for that matter are cool "One of" creations. I enjoy looking through the apperance threads at everybodys cars almost every day. But they are "one of's" I'm sure you know what I mean.

Pics and names would be great. I'm going to look these up I havn't been able to find anything on the Motion 3rd gens at all yet nor the Trojan Camaros.

I prefer the Firebird Formula over any Chevy Camaro model, but that is just me. I also believe the interiors are far more cleaner than the camaros. Andrew

I suspect its because Chevy has the Corvette. So GM let Pontiac have many special editions of Firebirds.

What makes the interior more cleaner to you? The dash? I like the body of a camaro better than a bird. I can't stand those seats with the ajustable head rests. Almost all of the cars have them. Mine has 1pc backs, which I like a whole lot better. I need to have them recoverd though. I do like those formulas though!!

Re: Where are the Weird/Cool model Camaros!?!?!

Honestly Chevrolet did some test cars but they never made it into production like in 1983 they had a turbo 4.3 V8 they considered but never materialized.

The Togan sister car from the Camaro was the Carello, it was quite different than the Togan.

I think one of the things is Pontiac always wanted a Sports car, and when they were denied this from Chevrolet they treated the Firebird more like a Sports car than Chevy did. Although they were made on the same platform the concept of making the Pontiac more Sporty was always in the back of their mind. As the Third gen matured this came into realization and companies (GM included) decided to make some special cars which really highlighted this fact. SLP teamed up with GM to release the SLP Headers and Siamesed Runners, which was available over the counter to people or installed by a dealership. Then SLP got serious and decided they could create the Ultimate Sprts car. They based it on the Formula more than likely because it was the lightest of the Firebirds and it was more Aero friendly than the Camaro. Thus the Firehawk was born. I suspect that Chevrolet was intending the Heritage edition Camaros to be of a similar vein with some of the preliminary specs which were released. Ultimately I suspect that Ed Hamburger decided not to do the Camaro as the Tests required to do the Firebird almost caused SLP to go int bankrupcy, a similar test on the Camaro could have been catestrophic. In short the Heritage Edition became a Sticker package in the end...

How true this is I really do not know but it really makes sence to what I have read and other information.

Camaro has the 1LE cars so your not all alone over there with nothing special. That and T-tops were more available on the Camaro than Firebird with the L98, so its not like you have nothing just not as much...

John

Tojan:Firebird :: Carralo:Camaro

Both were rolling ogres. Neither were released by GM.

The Camaro had the Evolution kit too, but that wasn't from the factory either.

There were 1LE Firebirds too. T-tops being more present in L98 Camaros isn't all that cool, but that's my opinion. Hardtop>T-top imo

Didn't Mecham produce a run of "Macho" IROCs? (edit - it's Magnum")

Re: Where are the Weird/Cool model Camaros!?!?!

More or less cars that you could buy. Cars that were sent to shops to be outfitted different that you could order. Things like that. I've never seen a Banks TT Camaro. Off to search for pics....

Re: Where are the Weird/Cool model Camaros!?!?!

im sure ill get flamed for bringing this up,,but i will again....i consider my 84 ZF sport coupe a "specialty' camaro ,at least as much as the previously mentioned motion cars etc....From what i have gathered each where different but shared a couple common traits..My car is documented with build sheet and original invoice. They state being shipped from the factory straight to ASC where it received a moonroof , a woodgrian dash upgrade (depending on how you look at it) and exterior emblems and striping...My car is also "odd" in that is is a radio delete car with a 305 5 speed and a 342 limited slip rear..I can only think that is was order with some sort of performance in mind ,,all be it low performance by todays standards...My car also has a fiberglass z28 style hood with the functional flapps and air cleaner like a L69 z28 would have...I have no proof of these being installed by ASC but the hood appears to have been only red and the rest of my car is original paint as of now...i do agree and understand it doesnt have its own specific factory RPO code,,but to my knowledge Mecham trans ams do not either..hope that lets you know there are some "special" camaros out there
