Clocks? Which years? Certain models?

Was just wondering which cars had the full face clock located right in front of the arm rest and behind the shifter? I know of a car that has seats that say camaro on them and has that clock in it. In my local scrap yard, was thinking of putting the clock in my car. Didn't know what cars it came in...

RPO U35, 82-85. Check my Car Details below for a pic, should you wish.

How are the seats and door panels in the car too? Thats the conteur interior and if its in good shape u should yank it as well. Im sure there is someone on this board who would eventually want it.

Link to info about the interior

Re: Clocks? Which years? Certain models?

Personally I love the look of the camaro console clock.I installed clocks in my 86 iroc and my 89 iroc vert.Just splice the wiring into the radio wires for power, ground and illumination. You would be surprised at how many people have never seen one.I get asked about it alot at car shows. If you do grab it just make sure you take the whole upper console piece and the wire connector. It will make installation alot easier

Re: Clocks? Which years? Certain models?

Always loved the center console clocks from the 1983 - 1984 models, awesome that there is actually a clock in the world that says "Camaro" on it. But I have a 1992, and wanted to cut the drink holder in the center console - so I mounted in a Radio Shack project box and mounted to dash. Inside, I used green EL Wire, and wrapped around the face where it mounts into the box, so it lights up green and way better than the factory clock lighting (I chose green 'cause the car is teal green).

Re: Clocks? Which years? Certain models?

hm.... thanks for all that info. I think its the 84 style. Its blue and say camaro over and over. I don't really remember anything about the door panels but the seats were in fair condition considering its a junk yard, lol. I don't remember any tears tho..., pictures finally loaded(dial up). See what you mean. I think the side panels are gone as well as the rear seats but I'm gonna go check. If anything it would be nice to have all those adjustments...

Re: Clocks? Which years? Certain models?

yea what James said. Conteurs are by far some of the most comfy and suportive seats that were put in third gens other than recaros. I actually like them a bit more than recaros just because of all the adjustments you can do. You can really dial them in to whatever you want. I would go grab as much of that interior as possible and put it in your car after cleanup. It would be a standout at shows too.

When I was in the console of my 85 Z28, I found the connector for the clock (orange, grey and black wires). Since my car didn't come with one, the connector was just left there. I don't know how common this was, but you may not even have to do any splicing to add the chronometer.

Your car was an 85. They stopped doing the clock in 86 so i doubt there is any wiring. Yours probably had it just because it was an option that year. I could be wrong however because they didnt change the console very much and if you look under the console on all 80s ( i think 91 and 92 too but maybe not) there are still mounts for the clock to be screwed into. All that needs to be done is cut the hole (easier said than done).

From what I've seen all 82-85 camaros have the clock connector under the center console

Re: Clocks? Which years? Certain models?

Just an FYI: As I understand it, only cars equipped with an AM radio received the clock since the that radio, unlike the AM/FM version, wasn't designed with a digital clock.

My 85 IROC is one of the 809 cars equipped with U35. By 86, of course, they were adios.

I agree....I factory ordered my Z-28 in late Nov 84 and by chance was at the dealership when it showed up on 22 Apr 85....seems like a long time huh, well it was because they had a big strike during that period and had management working the line to get orders out which I think because of the strike they had some part shortages also. Anyway I had ordered my car with the radio delete option but it showed up with a AM radio and the clock in the console.....also I forgot to order the limited slip option (ya a dumbass move lol) but the car came with it anyway eventhough it doesnt have the RPO code

This car kinda kills that theory. Its got the clock and an AM/FM radio. Its also fully loaded with all the goodies. He is a member on here too. Gorgeous car. When i get a chance im going to look in my factory brochures and see if they say anything about the clock. I saw a picture of it in both the 83 and 84 brochures.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...fCarsQ5fTrucks

My theory is a takeoff of yours. I think there is enough evidence that if a car got an AM radio that it got the clock as well, but i think you could also add the clock to a car with an AM/FM radio.

Easily could be. Perhaps someone with better eyesight than mine can chime in, but I couldn't make out RPO U35 on sticker. Should it be there?

The console clock was part of any order that didn't have a digital radio. If you have an AM only radio with a dial, you get the console clock. If you hae the AM/FM radio with the dial, you get a console clock. If you upgraded to a digital AM/FM stereo, the clock was deleted because it was built into the radio.

Thanks Scott for clearing that up! That agrees with what i found in my factory brochures. Here is what they say about the console clock

1983: Clocks: Electric Quartz (standard Berlinetta and z28): Digital (available AM or AM/FM radios only)

1984: Clock: Standard on z28 Not available on Berlinetta

Guess they changed up what models could receive the clock for 84.
